administration policy on Cuba:
"Some Republicans are acting like 'guerrilla warriors'
hit and run. While their high command Hnie rtionsi

you a war you provide the troops.' This is very careless
and reckless politics."

Alley Paving Work
Approved
The Medford city council
last night approved several
items with only one council
man voting no on one re
quest. Donald Hansen, councilman
for Ward 2, opposed paving
an alley in block 46, original
town. A public hearing on
the request was held.
Hansen felt that a majority
of property owners represent
ing a majority of the alley
frontage should be in favor
of paving since an alley is
used little by . the public.
It was pointed out that the
property on both sides of the
alley is zoned commercial.
Sign Petitions
Council President Stan
Stark, who presided at the
session in the absence of
Mayor John W. Snider, point
ed but that three of the seven
property owners along the
alley have signed petitions
favoring the paving and three
have expressed opposition to
the project. The property
owners who petitioned for the
paving represent 58.3 per cent
of the frontage.
City Engineer Vern Thorpe
said the alley now needs
patching and has created a
drainage problem for busi
nesses on one side of the
alley.
Also approved was a re
quest to annex to the city
properly lying east of Mur
phy rd. and south of Country
club dr. The property is part
of a proposed subdivision and
would be accessible to both
city water and sewer systems.
Other Council Action
In other action the city
council approved:
Segregation of assess
ments on property divided

was made:

Liquor Commission
Moves to Location
On North Grape St.
The Medford store maintain
ed by the Oregon Stale Liquor
Control commission has mov
ed from 118 South Central
ave. to 148 North Grape st.
The move, which took place
over the Labor day week end,
was made because of a lack
of storage and parking space
at the old location, according
to Roger F. Taylor, manager
of the store.
The new site provides in
creased storage and display
space, as well as parking fa
cilities. In addition, the store
will now be able to ship
merchandise to outlying areas.
With the move, the store
has been converted to a self-
service establishment, the first
in southern Oregon. Three
check-out stands, each
equipped with price lists, will
serve the customer after he
makes his selection.

HEAT YOUR HOME THE BEST WAY
AND SAVE MONEY TOO!
The cost of heating your home or place of business is not told
entirely by the price you pay for fuel. For example, look at a
few money-saving advantages of using ELECTRIC ENERGY rather
than burning fuel:
Electric Hear requires no vents for smoke and messy flame byproduct's, so no hear
is wasted up a chimney or flue.
Flameless Electric Heat is as clean as sunshine ... heps cuf down cosf of Cleaning
waifs, furniture, fixtures, and consumes no oxygen!
Electric heating systems are simple and efficient . . . create fewer maintenance,
repair, and cleaning costs to add to your heating bills.
Electric Heating system cost less to install than most flame-type systems.
AND NOW THIS SPECIAL MONEY-SAVING BONUS.
Until December !, Cal-Ore Electrical League heating and wir
ing contractors are authorized to allow you a special wiring
bonus allowance of $6,00 per kilowatt of installed heating capa
city! For many home owners and business people, this can mean
