The bridegroom-elect is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gay Jones, 2715 Elliott street, Medford. Miss Hudson is a 1962 grad uate of Lcuzingcr High school and her fiance was graduated from Crater High school. He completed his service in the Navy on July 2B and is em ployed by the Virture Broth ers Manufacturing company of Los Angeles. The wedding Is set for No vember 9. Student Leaves For University Wayne Chipman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Chipman, 1808 Roxy Ann place, left Wednesday, August 26, for Anchorage, Alaska. Young Chipman, who trav clcd by air, will be a fresh man scholarship student at Alaska Methodist university this fall. En route to Alaska he stopped in Seattle to visit the World's fair. Canadian City Of Newly Mar Butte Falls - Mr. and Mrs. John Goertr.cn traveled to Dominion City, Manitoba, Canada, following their wed ding Thursday, August 23, at Gold Hill Kingdom Hall. The bride, the former Nor ma Fay Poole, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis E. Poole, Butte Falls. Mrs. Frank Goertzen, Dominion City, is the bridegroom's mother. James W. Lchrmann of the Gold Hill Kingdom Hall offi ciated at the 7 o'clock evening rites. About 65 guests attend ed the single ring ceremony. The hall was decorated with pink roses. Mr. Poole gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a street length gown of beige dacron and white accessories. Her veil was shoulder length. Miss Priscilla Poole attend ed her sister. Her lavender cotton frock was worn with white accessories. Two Daughters Return Home; Wedding Set The marriage of Miss San dra Hubbard to Lt. Thomas Gaffney Jr., has been set for Saturday, September IS, at Sacred Heart church, Med ford. The reception will fol low at Rogue Valley Country club. Miss Hubbard is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hub bard, 2451 Lyman avenue, Medford, and her fiancee's pa rents are Mr. and Mrs. Thom as A. Gaffney of Huntington, L. I., New York. Miss Hubbard and her sis ter, Susan, returned recent ly from a tour of Europe. The two young women were In London, Paris and Copenha gen and visited various cities in Spain, Italy and Switzer land. While In Germany they saw a Medford friend, Steph en Fabrick, and Mrs. Fabrick. Mr. Fabrick is In Wursburg on Army duty. After arriving In New York, the two Miss Hubbards re turned home by way of Mi ami, Fla., where Lt. Gaff ney is on duty with the United State Coast Guard. The bride - elect has been honored at a number of par ties recently and others are planned. Mr. Gaffney's mother is ex pected in Medford Septem ber 11 and will be present for some of the events. Mr. Gaff ney will arrive later. Janet Merrill Is Graduated Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mer rill, 17 North Groveland ave nue traveled to Eugene rec ently to attend the graduation exercises of Sacred Heart School of Nursing. Their daughter, Miss Janet Merrill, was one of the graduating nurses. Dr. Arthur S. Fleming, president of the University of Oregon, gave the com mencement address. Miss Merrill, who attended Medford schools, will come to Medford soon for a vacation. She will be employed by Sac red Heart hospital In Eugene. To Be Home ried Couple Kenneth L. Hawkins was best man. Mrs. Roy Lambert, another sister of the bride, was hostess for the reception, given In the Lawrance Ellis home, Eagle Point. Mrs. Francis E. Poole Jr. served the wedding cake, 'and Duane Wnaley served Ice cream. Mrs. Glenne Albert poured punch, and Miss Pris cilla Poole registered t h e guests. The bride attended Butte Falls schools, and the bride groom, who is self-employed as a farmer, attended Doniini an City schools. They will make their home In the Ca nadian city. For traveling the bride chose a brown suit. The bride's family have lived for many years in Butte Falls, and the bridegroom's family arc long time Dominion City residents. University Women Plan Annual Fall Tea Saturday The annual patio tea given by the Medford branch of the American Association of Uni versity Women is scheduled this year for Saturday, Sep tember 8 from 2 to 4 p.m., in the home of Mrs. William S. Cobb, 42 South Barneburg road. This fall event is for mem bers and women interested in AAUW and also is registra tion day for any women who wish to participate In its in terest groups. Mrs. Douglas Philips will be introduced as the newly elected vice-president, by the branch president, Mrs. Calvin Smith. Mrs. Philips replaces Mrs. William McLaren who is to leave for California. Mrs. Alan Markee, interest group coordinator, has an nounced this year's program and chairmen will include, Antiques, Mrs. John Ness and Mrs. Emerson Anderson; Ap plied Arts, (evening) Mrs. Ev erett Lasher; Applied Arts, (morning) Mrs. Vernon Gcb hard. Groups Listed Appreciation of Fine Arts, Mrs. Dan Doty; Book Re views, Mrs. William Cousi neau; Great Decisions, Mrs. Bruce Nelson; International Relations, Mrs. Justin Smith; Shakespeare, (plays for Ash land, 1083), Mrs. Robert Wil cox, and Recent Graduates, Mrs. Douglas Harshbargcr. This is the 26th year of or ganized study groups for the Medford branch of the AAUW, originated in 1930 when the first groups were formed in keeping the associ ation's national policy of stim ulating continued learning. Parent education, creative arts, international relations and social and economic prob lems were subjects first studied. In other years such fields as music appreciation, interior decoration, drama, gardening and beginners bridge have been explored. These groups usually meet monthly and are open not only to AAUW members but Janet Lynn Anderson Wed To Darryl Gene Middleton Yreka-First Baptist church I in Yreka was the scene of the wedding August 18 at 2 o'clock of Miss Janet Lynn Anderson, Yreka, to Darryl Gene Middleton, Hill. Officiating for the single ring ceremony was the Rev. Maxwell J. Aiken. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Ander son, Yreka, and the bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Middleton Sr., Hilt. The bride, given In mar riage by her lather, wore a knit, grey and toast colored three - piece suit with brown accessories. She carried a white orchid on a white Bible. Photographers Postpone Session The September meeting of the Southern Oregon Photo graphic association has been postponed until Wednesday, September 111, because of the Labor day holiday. At the ses sion color slides will be shown and three members of the association will talk on light meters, mounting salon prints and night photography. The meeting will be for mem bers only. The board of director" has decided not to have a field trip this month, but plans an j open competition by members I with an autumn theme. The competition will be In Odo-: uer.. Newlyweds Make Home In Medford Mr. and Mrs. Verner Wil liam McCall II are making their home at 2805 Cummings road after their marriage in Meeker Memorial chapel of the First Methodist church on Monday, August 27. Mrs. McCall is the former Kathryn E. Anders, 57 Quince street. She is a daughter of Mrs. Ellen Mcrrell, Hender sonville, N.C. White chrysanthemums with blue accents decorated the chapel for the wedding, at which the Rev. Gerald Nelson, associate pastor of the church, officiated. The candlelight ceremony was held at 7 o'clock In the evening. The bride was escorted to the altar by her brother, Jona than L. Mcrrell, Oakland, Calif. She wore a blue knit suit with matching accessories, and carried a bouquet of white stephanotis and phaelenopsis orchids on a Bible, Mrs. Harold Boon attended the bride, and Verner W. Mc Call III, Bcvcrton, a son of the bridegroom, was best man. Mrs. Boon wore a frock of beige and coral shades, and carried a bouquet of coral col ored chrysanthemums. The newlywcd couple trav eled through the Pacific Northwest and Victoria, Can ada, for a wedding trip. The new Mrs. McCall is em ployed as a receptionist and bookkeeper by the law firm of Van Dyke, Dellcnback, and McGoodwin. Mr. McCall is a department manager for Sears Roebuck company. Jerry Wrcden of Yreka served as best man. The bride's mother wore an orange and white two piece dress with orange accessories and a corsage of white carna tions. The bridegroom's moth er wore a green and white print dress with white acces sories. Her corsage also was white carnations. A group of close friends joined family members at the Anderson home for the reception. On Monday evening, Au gust 13, the bride was a guest of honor at a shower given at the home of Mrs. Marvin Sel by at 6(i0 Butte Street, Yreka. Mrs. Pat Watt, Hombrook, was co-hostess. , Mann S IO Give Fashion ReVUC A fall fashion show will be featured at a meeting of the Christian Business and Professional Women's council of Medford Thursday. Septem ber ti. at 6:15 p.m. The group will meet at the Rogue Valley Country club. Mann's Department store will furnish the fashions, and Charles Anselmi, Shady Cove, will furnish accordion music. League members will model the latest in fall and winter attire, ranging from tailored sport clothes and daytime ap parel to elegant evening wear. Clothing for the style show is being assembled from 11 val ley stores. Mrs. N. J. Wilson is in charge of the models and the clothes, and Mrs. Carl Wimberly Jr. will be com mentator. Travelers Leave For Connecticut Central Point - Mrs. Paul Zcleznik, 3285 Frceland road, Central Point, and daughter Miss Dolores Zeleznik of Se attle, Wash., are to arrive by air today in Bridgeport, Conn., where they will visit relatives. Mrs Zcleznik was accom panied on the trip from Med ford to Seattle by her daugh ter. Miss Lorctta Zeleznik, who is to arrive home Mon day. En route north the two visited friends, Mr. and Mrs. Don Fields, in Portland. In Bridgeport, the travelers will visit Mrs. Zeleznik's mother, Mrs. Julia Pivarnik, and her brothers and sisters, as well as Mr. Zeleznik's mother, Mrs. Mary Zeleznik, and others of his relatives. From Bridgeport they will return September 23 to Med ford and Miss Dolores Zelez nik will remain here for a week before returning to Se attle where she is a labora tory technician at the King County hospital. Jere Hurley, Yreka, and Theodore Dewayne Spen cer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne B. Spencer, Montague, were married at 8 o'clock in the evening, August 18 in St. Marks Episcopal church in Yreka. The Rev. William T. Holt performed the candlelight ceremony. Baskets of white gladioli decorated the church. The bride wore a gown of Chantilly lace over taffeta with a chapel train. The gown had a fitted bodice and long sleeves of lace with a Sabrina neckline embroi dered in pearls and iridescent sequins. The bouffant skirt was caught up in front by a lace applique centered with pearls and sequins; the appli ques were repeated at ran dom over the front of the skirt. Wide bands of scalloped lace were used as an edging on the skirt, tiered in back. Her veil of hand-rolled silk illusion was made with a butterfly face veil and was held by a queen's -crown of pearls and iridescent crystals. She carried a cascade bou quet of fleur d'amour and stephanotis. The maid of honor was Miss Julie Dickson, Yreka, and the bridesmaids were the Misses Susan Harris, Yieka and Ja net Bicker, Fairfield. They wore orchid lace with tulle over orchid satin with lace bodices and bouffant skirts and carried cascade bouquets of white carnations. Two Honored With Showers; Wedding Set Miss Toni Tweedy, bride elect of Curtis Boardman, was honored at a shower Au gust 25 at the Stickncy resi dence, 22 South Columbus avenue, Medford. Hostesses were Mrs. Leland Stickncy and Mrs. Leslie Boardman. About 20 guests attended and the honoree was present ed with linens and kitchen articles. The room was decorated with miniature pink and white parosols and the gifts were placed in a large "wed ding cake" constructed for that purpose. Of particular in terest was the refreshment table, which was done in shades of pink and white, and featured bride and brides maids dolls whose skirts were formed by angel food cakes. While the bridal shower was in progress, Miss Tweedy's fiance was sur prised with a groom's shower at the home of his grand mother, Anna Wolff, on West Scenic avenue, Central Point. Hosts were Mr. Stickncy and Leslie Boardman. About a dozen friends and relatives were in attendance, and the groom-elect was presented with gifts of tools. The wedding is set for Sep tember 15 at the Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Miss Tweedy is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle L. Tweedy, 309 South Fifth street. Jack sonville. Hombrook Resident Returns From Visit Hombrook - Leonard Bear returned Monday from a four day visit in Livcrmorc, Calif., with friends, Mr. and Mrs. Oli ver Fick and son, Douglas. A reception was held at the Elks' hall. Helping serve was Miss Charlene Tuhey, Oroville and at the guest book was Miss Caroline Cox, Max well. The bride wore 'a beige suit with brown accessories and a fur hat for traveling to Car mel. Both bride and bride groom attended Yreka High school and Chico State col lege. They will live in Chico. Methodist Ceremony Weds Pair Shady Cove-Miss Elizabeth Boyd and Gerald W. Quinlin were married August 25 in 11 o'clock morning rites read in the First Methodist church in Medford. The Rev. Gerald Nelson, associate minister of the church, performed the ceremony. About 15 persons attended. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sydney E. Boyd of Pomona, Calif. The bride-j groom is a son of the late Mr. ' and Mrs. John Quinlin. Mrs. Edward Hodge was ma tron of honor. Nancy H"d?e was flower girl and also serv ed with Wayne Hodge as ring bearer. Gerald Kerklin, Medford, was usher. Carl Arnold, White City, j gave the bride in marriage. ! Her light blue street length I dress was designed with a full chiffon skirt and blue lace bodice. The bride attended Pomona, Calif., grade and Junior High school, and the bridegroom, who attended Jackson county schools, is an employee of Ben F. Nork in the logging busi- j ness. Family Here From California Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Bevens and twin daughters, Sandra and Susan, Manhattan Beach, Calif., arrived in Medford Fri day and are guests of Mrs. Bevens mother, Mrs. Jean Hart, Hawthorne Garden apartments. Mr. Bevens plans to return south today, while his wife and daughters will remain for a longer stay. Before coming here, the Bevens had been at Lake of the Woods for several days. September 8 Miss Sarah Hart, San Francisco, is to ar rive for a two-week vacation with her mother and sister. Miss Hart is a secretary with the William Wrigley company in the Bay City. Patricia Louise Russell (Landis photo) Patricia Russell Engaged To Wed Jared Lee Black From McMinnville, Ore., comes the news that Mr. and Mrs. Steve Citron of that city have announced the engage ment of their daughter, Patri cia Louise Russell, of 610V4 King street, Medford to Jared Lee Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Black, of 218 South Orange street, Med ford. Miss Russell attended Mc Minnville schools and is a 1981 graduate from the school of Dental Hygiene at the University of Oregon Den tal school. She is presently practicing as a dental hygienist for four dentists of this area. Mr. Black was graduated from Medford High school and is a senior in civil engi neering at Oregon State uni versity.
