The play went smoothly. The
lines were well rehearsed
There was no back stage com
motion as actors and actresses
changed costumes, this being
due mainly to the fact that
they didn't wear any.
Tile play, "Barely Proper,"
put on last week by a group
of player's from California,
was one of the most unusual
comedies ever witnessed by
southern Oregon "patrons of
the drama." Called the un
playable play, it, Indeed, had
never been produced before
although it was written some
30 years Bgo by prominent
American Playwright Tom

Why it never ran on Broad
way is easy to understand.
Where could a producer find
a cast that would be willing
to perform in the nude? There
Is no question this lively com
edy would have been an im
mediate success amongst so
phisticated playgoers. . .but
no doubt would have closed
just as quickly due to various
pressure groups, on the basis
that it is immoral to appear in
public without clothes.
Staged at Lodge
But tile play was put on.
The players, members nl the
Pacificans of southern Cali
fornia, are nudisls. II was
staged at White Oak lodge,
near Trail, during the national
convention of the American
Sunbathing association last
week. More than one hundred
southern Oregonians, there by
special invitation, viewed a
play, the likes of which they
will probably not see again.
Setting in Germany
The story binges around a
family of nudists in Germany
in the late 1920 s. The daugh
ter, Frieda, is engaged to a
reserved and proper young
Englishman by the name of
Derek. Derek does not know
Frieda's family are members
of a "naked cull" and is utter
ly embarrassed when they
come in
nude.
Man Lodged Alter'
Vehicle Hits Car
A Mcdford man was given
two traffic citations by Med
ford city police and then lodg
ed in city jail on a drunk in
public charge, after the car
which he was driving struck
a parked car on Court st
Thursday afternoon.
Arrested was Robert Lewis
Mote, 35, of 217 South River
side avc. He was cited by
city police for failure to ob
tain an Oregon operator s h
cense, and for failure to leave
information at the scene of
an accident.
Mote was driving a car reg
istered to William Carlton
Wehunt, 1148 West Eighth st.,
who was cited by police for
permitting an unlicensed dnv
er to operate his vehicle, offi
cers said.
According to police reports,
Mote was the driver of a car
which struck a parked ve
hide registered to Robert Eu
gene Hogcson, 1913 Birch st.
The mishap occurred about
2:33 p.m.
Police reports said Mole
fled the scene of the accident
but was apprehended a short
time later. He was taken to
the police station and booked
on the drunk charge.

Derek's predicament and his
desperate attempts to appear
undisturbed under this trying
situation.

easy" bul he's happy to
report that the abbreviations
(spelled "abbrcv.") are al
most a thing of the liast.
Famous old names like "CA
JCT." "GLN," "C A N V L,"
"GTS P" and BRKG" arc be
ing displaced by unimagina
tive labels like Cave Junction,
Glcnclale, Canyonvillc, Grants
Pass and Brookings.
The reason for this reversal
of a national trend toward
abbreviation is Ihe new direct
distance dialing system now
in use by Pacific Northwest
Bell customers in Ihe Rogue
valley.
Electronics
DDD calls arc recorded on
a tape that is processed by
electronic means. This system
makes posible expanded infor
mation on statements mailed
with the phone bill.
