NOT CALLED ON IT Has Atty. Gen.
Robert Kennedy violated a Federal regula
tion by bringing his dog, Brumus, to work
with him? Nobody has called the nation's
chief law enforcement official on it yet, and
he seems in little danger of being convicted
and serving the 30-day jail sentence that
could be imposed for breaking the rule,
which bars dogs and other animals, except
seeing eye dogs, from Federal property ex
cept for official business. Kennedy says the
dog is lonely because the children are away
on vacation. Here, Lynne Widlitz, a Justice
Department employee, walks Brumus down
the hall past the Attorney General's office.

Bobby Kennedy Violates Regulations
By Bringing Dog To Work With Him
Washington -0i-Has Atty
Gen. Robert F. Kennedy vio
lated a federal regulation by
bringing his dog to work
with him?
No one ha? called the na
tion's chief law enforcement
official on it yet. He appears
to be in little danger of be
ing conviclrd and serving the
30-day jail sentence that
could he imposed for break
ing the rule.
But the question comes up
because a sad-eyed Labrador
named Brumus has been ac
companying Kennedy to his
I office ai the Justice Depart
ment lately.
Brumus is no ordinary dog.
At the age of 14 months he
is almost as big as a pony
and not nearly as graceful.
Gets Lonely At Homo
"He usually stays at home
with the children." the attor
ney general recently explain
ed to visitors. "But the child
ren are away on vacation
and he gets very lonely. Sn I
brine him down here and get
pretty girls to take him for
walks."
Government building regu
lations issued by the General
Service Administration have
this to say on the subject:
"Dogs and other animals,
except for seeing eye dogs,
shall not be brought upon
government property for oth
er than official purposes."
Anyone found guilty faces
a maximum penally of $50
fine and 30 days in jail.
Brumus, whose shambling
gait and mournful appear
ance invariably bring sur
prised smiles from Kennedy's
callers, is considered well-behaved
most of the time.
Indonesian Foreign Minis
ter Subandrio seemed highly
amused at the black dog's an
tics during a picture-taking
session with Kennedy. An
aide finally led Brumus out
of camera range.
Brumus was the animal
star of a film made in Ken-

with students from Brazil.
Visitors Delighted
The South American visi
tors seemed delighted when
the attorney general solemn
ly poured his pet a drink of
water from a silver pitcher
into an ash tray.
Kennedy's aides have jok
ingly suggested that Brumus
might qualify as a, goodwill
envoy, a bodyguard or watch
dog to meet the GSA test of
being on official duty.
This, at least, seemed to
bar any long Justice Depart
ment visits by other animals
assembled by the seven Ken
neay cnnaren. This menag
erie has included two other
dogs, ponies, horses, geese,
a burro, a sea lion, Hungar
ian pigeons, 20 goldfish, rab
bits, turtles and a salamander.
