Minor Damage - Firemen
said that fire caused minor
damage early Friday at Mon
arch Seed and Feed company
farm store at 305 South Fir
st. They reported that some
one had ignited hay through
a guard fence. Firemen were
dispatched about 1:50 a.m.
and said they had to break
the lock on the gate. An un
identified person ignited trash
in a barrel at a service sta
tion in the 1100 block on
Court St., according to fire
menl, who were called about
10:20 p.m. Friday.
Smoke Reported - Firemen
received a call about 11:40
p.m. Friday reporting smoke
in the? U.S. National bank
North Medford branch build
ing at 1242 Court st. They said
vapor from an air condition
er and smoke from an incin
erator gave the appearance of
smoke in the building. A grass
fire at McAndrews rd. and the
railroad tracks about 9:45
p.m. was out on arrival of
firemen.

Grass Fira - Medford fire
men extinguished a grass fire
at 557 South Kccnevay dr.,
reported at 11:43 a.m. Satur
day. The fire originated in
grass and spread to boxes,
but there was little damage.
Cause of the fire was undetermined.

STAMP UNVEILED - Design of the Sam Rayburn postage
stamp is shown as it was unvicled by the Post Office depart
ment in Washington. The four-cent commemorative stamp is
a tribute to the Texan who served as speaker of the House
of Representatives for 17 years. The stamp will first be
placed on sale in Rayburn's home town of Bonham, Texas,
on Sept. 16, the 22nd anniversary of his first election to
Congress. (UPI)

CLARENCE H. KOPPL.
The body of Clarence H.
Koppl, 33 , of Union City,
Calif., who was fatally injured
early Friday in a truck ac
cident on Highway 99 south
of Ashland, was returned to
Union City for services and
interment.
Local arrangements were
handled by Canger - Morris
Funeral directors.
Mr. Koppl was born in
Long Beach, Calif., Dec 5,
1928. He was a veteran of the
Korean conflict.
Mr. Koppl owned and man
aged the Gem Freight lines of
Union City.
He is survived by his wife,
Margaret, and two sons.

L. Sliced, 73, who riird at his
home near Trail Friday, will
be held af 10 a.m. Monday
at Perl Funeral home. The
Rev. D. E. Millard, pastor of
the New Age church, Eacle
Point, will officiafe. Inter
ment will be in the Trail
cemetery.
Mr. Snecd was horn April
22.1889, at Coquille, Ore. On :
March 30. 1318. at Madras,
Ore., he was Inducted into
the U.S Army. He served as
a Private with the 44!h com
pany, 116th Depot BricadP
until Jan. 18, 101!). He lived
for several years in Bandon,
Ore., and has made his home
for the past 24 years near
Trail.
For the past two years he
has been employed as a watch
man for the Fred Schaffran
Logging camp.
On May 24, 1941. in Trail,
he was married to Mary Car
oline Fry, who survives.
Other survivors include
two step-sons, Charles Fry,
Trail, Earl Fry, Warrenton,
Ore., three grandchildren and
one great grandchild.

at 520 Terrace St., Ashland,
got out of ronlrnl at 9:17 a.m.
Saturday and burned unrne

land firemen extinguished
the blaze.
