MacLean, who is instructor
of speech and drama at the
University of Suffolk, Med
ford, Mass., and of Emerson
eolloce, Boston, spoke at
luncheon meeting at the
Rogue Valley Country club.
Techniques employed by
the veteran actor and instruc
tor in teaching speech were
outlined, including extempor
aneous speaking, commentary,
"off the cuff" discussion and
manuscript reading. The ob
jectives are selling otie's self
to an audience and motivating
thoughts and actions.
Satire, MacLean said, is a
basic tool of persuasive
speech and effective speaking
is increasingly important in
today's life with the growing
importance of radio, televi
sion, the stage and movies.
