leagues' top pitcher, won his
seventh consecutive game Sat
urday while leading the Los
Angeles Dodgers to a 3-1 vic
tory over the Chicago Cubs
with lale inning relief help.
The Victory enabled the
Dodgers to increase their Na
tional league lead over the
pecond - place San Francisco
Giants, who lost to the Pi
rates, to two games. Drysdale
incjeased his victory total to
17, equalling his two best set
son marks of 1957 and 1059
when he finished with 17-9
and 17-13 respectively. He has
lost only four games this sea
son. Drysdale, who had gone the
route in his previous six wins,
was relieved in this one by
Ron Perranoski when Ken
Hubbs bounced a double off

Of Restrictions
Bear hunlers have been re
minded that black bear sea
son is now closed on national
forest lands between U.S.
Highways Pfl and 07. Also
closed are lands within one
mile of the Rogue river from
confluence of Graves creek
downstream to Agness.
In Jackson county, all of
the Rogue Hiver National For
est is closed, except the por
tion west of Highway 99 in
the Siskiyou mountains.
Bear season extends from
Sept. 1 through Dec. 15. Bag
limit is one bear. Bear may be
hunted with dogs during the
open season. In the remainder
of the state the hear is unpro
tected and may he hunted at
any time.
Persons trapping bear in
these unprotected areas are
reminded that any trap larger
lhan No. 5 or W'ith jaw spread
of more than 12 inches shall
have warning signs posted

Monti Takes Early Lead

Monti, one of gnlfing's old
guard, shot a one over par 71
Saturday for a total of 221
and the lead among the early
finishers in the third round of
the PGA championship.
Monti, 43, slarted out the
day 12 strokes behind Doug
Ford, 39. He went out in 3h',
one over par and came b;ick
in 35, even par, over the 7,-045-yard

70. Ford and the nlher leaders
were not scheduled to tee off
until later. Ford with a total
of 138, was in the last three

Cary Middlecoff- and Bob
McAllister. Middlecoff was

Closest to Monti among the
early finishers was big Pat
Schwab, a long hitting pro

a 71 with nines of 34 and 37

Dick Bury came in with a
73 for a total of 224. Skee Rie

Bassler.
Although his lead was go
ing to be a lemporary one,
Monti kept up the lavender
and old lare mob which was
dominaling the tournament.

quired Dan Osinski of the Pa
cific Coast league's Portland
Beavers in exchange for one
player and an undisclosed
sum, General Manager Fred
Ilaney said Saturday.
Osinski. a 2R-year-old fasl
baller, will join the Angels
tomorrow or Monday, Haney
said. The righthander had a
