Funeral Tuesday For Mrs. Billings
Ashland Funeral service
for Mrs. Myrtle Billings, 84,
who died July 14 after a long
illness, will be held Tuesday
at 1:30 p.m. in Litwiller's
Mountain View chapel by the
Rev. P. Malcolm Hammond,
with entombment in Rest
Haven mausoleum. Mountain
View cemetery.
Myrtle Vine Herbert was
born Aug. 26, 1877 to Augus
tus and Sarah Baldwin Her
bert in Oregon, Wis., and at
the age of three years she
moved to Corvallis with her
family. In '901 she was grad
uated from Oregon Agricul
tural college, now Oregon
State university. On June 21,
1905 she became the wife of
Ralph Billings. Until his
death in 1956 the Billings liv
ed on the old family home
stead north of Ashland.
Throughout her life Mrs.
Billings was active in church,
civic and social affairs. She
was a member of the First
Methodist church for 57
years: a charter member of
Fortnightly Study club; a
charter member of the Rogue
Valley College Women's club,
and was a longtime member

Mr. Radey was born July
19, 1910, in Seattle, Wash.,
and had lived in Oregon for
many years, the past five
years in Medford. He was a
graduate of the Castle Rock,
Wash., High school, and of
the University of California
at Davis, in agriculture and
horticulture. He operated a
nursery on the roof of the
Emporium in San Francisco
for five years, and for a num
ber of years traveled in the
East for the Associated Seed
company, after which he re
turned to Sacramento and en
tered the employ of the L.
H. Butcher company. In 1957
he opende and managed the
office of the latter company
in Medford, and earlier '.his
year he opened an office in
Medford for the DePester
Western, Inc., affiliate of
Philips - Roxanne of New
York and Amsterdam, Hol
land, of which company he
was an official. He was a
member of the Nurserymen's
association, and the Oregon
Weed conference.
Survivors include his wife,
Zola; four children, Mrs. Lor
na Lewis, San Rafael, Calif.;
Mrs. Donald Palaia, Sausa
lito, Calif.; Michael Radey,
Orangvale, Calif.; and Stev
en Radey, at home; a broth
er, Jack R. Radey, Walla Wal
la, Wash.; five sisters, Mrs.
Kay Morss, San Francisco;
Mrs. Marge Bailey, San Fran
cisco; Mrs. Elizabeth Lochrie
and Mrs. Jean Barnhill, Los

st., who died July 4, in Bath
New Brunswick, Canada, will

Mr. Avery was born April
9, 1898, in Umondale, Perm
He married Ruby Doris Gib
erson, who survives, in New
Haven, Conn. They came to
Medford in 1934 from Con
necticut. Mr. Avery was
fireman here until 1952 when
he began work for the Gen
eral Services administration
of the U.S. government until
his retirement in April.

Charles White, of Kirtland
rd., Central Point, who died
Wednesday, will be held at
the graveside in Siskiyou
Memorial park at 10 a.m
Tuesday. The Rev. Clynton
Crisman, pastor of Friends
church, will officiate. Perl
Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. White was born Feb.
16, 1875, at Jewell, Kan. He
i moved to Oregon in 1902, and
was owner and operator of a
hotel in Portland for several
years. For the past nine years,
he has made his home near
Central Point with his son,
Wilton A. White.
In 1910, he was married to
Minnie Betnar, who died in
August, 1941.
In 1945, in Portland! he was
married to Flossie Schultz,
who died in 1953.
Survivors include two sons.

rence Richards, Reno, Nev.;
Basil Richards, Wichita, Kan.;
and Orval Richards, St. Jo
seph, Mo.; and three grand
children. Barbara, Walter,
and Kathy.

wick, 63, of 867 East Main si..
Ashland, died Saturday, July
14, at his home. Mr. Bostwick
was born Aug. 29, 1898, in
Jacksonville, and lived in the
Rogue valley all his life.
In 1925 he married M.na
Milner. who survives, at the
old Vr.lley View ranch near
Ashland. In 1939 he moved
into Ashland where he work
ed for the City of Ashland
and then for Lithia Lumber
company.
Mr. Bostwick was a mem
ber of the Ashland Elks club.
Other survivors in !ude two

Norma Lehnherr, Ashland; a
son, F. Everett Bostwick Jr.,
Medford; two brothers, Earl

Earl Chaffee, of route 1, box
36, Gold Hill, who died Sun
day in Central Point, will be

Mr. Chaffee was born Dec.
23, 1896 in Worchester, Mass.,
the son of W. A. and Cora
Chaffee. He was married in
1933, at Hawthorne, Calif., lo
Hattie Louise King, who sur
vives. They came to the Gold
Hill area in 1938, where for
the past 15 years, Mr. Chaffee
worked for Ideal Cement com
pany until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Navy
in World War I. At one time
he was a member of the Gold
Hill Independent Order of
Odd Fellows.

tesia, Calif.; Robert Chaffee,
