hearsals underway at the
Oregon Shakespearean Festi
val in Ashland, plans for ex
tended daytime activities are
being completed. The Festi
val, first of its kind In this
Hemisphere , opens July 21
and continues nightly
through Sept. 2. Rotating
throughout the 44-nlghts will
be "Comedy of Errors,"
"Henry IV, Part Two," "As
You Like It," and "Cori
olanus." A special music-dance pro
duction, "A Thieves Ballad,"
will join the schedule Aug. 6
and will follow each eve
ning's performance of "Come
dy of Errors" thereafter.
Renaissance Schedule
The Festival's Institute of
Renaissance Studies will
maintain a full summer's ac
tivity schedule throughout
the 1062 season. Institute Di
rector Dr. Margery Bailey
has arranged a fresh slate of
popular side attractions to
the summer productions.
Trinity Noon coffee and
dramatic readings sponsored
by Beta Sigma Phi, women's
service organization will
again be held on Wednes
days at Trinity hall in Ash
land. The Gresham Lectures on
Tudor life and idea will be
heard each Thursday after
noon in the Ashlaid library
assembly room. Special gal
lery and book exhibits will
also be offered the public
during the season.
Sunday Concerts
Sunday concerts of music
and dance will again high
light the Festival season.
Slated for four performances
July 22, Aug. 5, Aug. ID, and
Sept. 2, the popular series
will be seen this year at Ash
land's Old Presbyterian
church, within walking dis
tance of the Festival Theatre.
In addition to the slate of
A s h 1 a n d-bascd activities,
three stimulating tours will
be available to Festival pa
trons. Fully guided, reason
ably priced, and convenient
to the visitor's theater plans,
the tours will depart regular
ly from Ashland and Med
ford to Crater Lake, the Ore
gon Caves, and the historic
goldrush town ol Jackson
ville. Tickets for all three
lours will be available at the
Mark Antony hotel in Ash
land and Jackson house in
Mcdfnrd,
A full listing of the Festi
val's daytime activities will
be available at the theater
box office. The flyer includes
information on other Rogue
valley events, including summer-long
art exhibits and
other special attractions.
PP&L Becomes New
Society Member
Pacific Power and Light
company has become a sus
taining member of the Forest
Products Research Society,
the national organization of
forestry scientists and forest
products research and devel
opment personnel, Louis P.
Orowney, manager of PP&L's
industrial development de
partment, has announced.
Growncy said Pacific Pow
er's interest in the society is
related to ils work with forset
products industries of the re
gion. lie noted PP&L supplies
more lumber, plywood and
hnrdhoard and pulp and paper
mills than any other electric
utility in the Northwest, and
conducts extensive new-product
studies aimed at helping
the region's basic resource in
dustry expand the output of
marketable products from
trees and wood fiber.
