The lake, which was creat
ed just a little over a year ago

Trost, who with her husband
owns and operates the lodge

Last Resort") informed us
that the water is very cold in
deep areas.

located next to the swimming
area, .but the choice camping
area lit located a little farther
around the shore. Apparently
not many people have discov
ered this second area yet. My
family and I were the only
ones there when we camped
the other night. Take your
pwn water. There is a hand
pump well at the second
Campground but we found the
water salty and dirty.
'. Mrs. Briggs, incidentally,
look off last week to drive
the Winnemucca - to the - sea
highway. We hope to have
her impressions of the trip in
Jirint soon.

public exhibit the club has

nity had oil, water and pastel
paintings on display,

Talent-Backers of the pro
posed Talent rural fire dis
trict hope to set up an oper
ation similar to that of the
Central Point Rural Fire Dis
trict.
Petitions seeking an elec
tion on the formation of a dis
trict covering the rural area
around Talent and Phoenix
were submitted to the Jack'
son County Court last week
The court this morning or
dered return of the petitions
to district proponents, how
ever, because required affida-
vits had not been submitted.
"We want to get equipment
and men available to fight
rural fires on a 24-hour basis,1
explained John Tompkins
Talent city councilman who
is one of the leaders of the
group seeking formation of
the district.
"We feel this step is neces
sary because of the popula-
tion increase In this area," he
added. "We also hope it will
reduce fire Insurance rates
At present there is a Talent
Rural Fire Department serv
ing the area, but it la strictly
a volunteer organlz a 1 1 o n,
Tompkins explained. Funds
for equipment are raised
through voluntary subscriber
fees, whereas a district would
have taxing power.

View and Fern Valley area
east of Talent and Phoenix

Winnemucca Road
May Open Sept. 18
Winnemucca, Nev. Plans
are being made to open the
new Wlnnemucca-to-the-Sea
route by Sept. 18, according
to Jim Rutherford, manager
of the Winnemucca Chamber
of Commerce. Rutherford said
that franchises have been let
to truck companies to travel
the route.
He added that Greyhound
Bus Lines has moved 16 fam
ilies from Elko, Nev., to Win
nemucca to operate a bus de
pot there.

spoke with Rutherford last
week, also reported he indi
cated Greyhound is preparing
to route buses over the new
highway.
I. L. Carew, Medford Grey
hound superintendent, told the
Mail .Tribune this morning,
however, that he knew of no
such plans, although he did
not rule out the possibility of
applying for routes over the
highway after it has opened.
Carew said the families
were moved to Winnemucca
in connection with a change
in east-west, San Francisco to
Salt Lake City operations.
Buses on that route will now
change drivers at Winnemuc
ca instead of Reno, he ex
plained.

the way for reopening of the
former Grants Pass Plywood
mill and a Happy Camp,
Calif., green veneer plant.
Both plants will be operat
ed by the new Josephine Ply
wood Corporation, with re
opening predicted by Aug. 1,
Announcement of the loan
was contained in a telegram
received here from Sen.
Wayne Morse, stating that the
project will also be financed
by a $402,000 loan from the
United States National Bank
of Portland, $201,000 Invest
ment by local redevelopment
groups, the contribution of

such as inner tubes, rubber
rafts, balls with the exception
of snorkels.

Mr. Clawson said, I m going
to retire - period!"
One of his last acts before
his retirement was to con
tribute a day's labor with his
power grader to leveling and
smoothing the surface of tne
new Little League baseball
field. The couniy donated the
use of the grader.

The Everetts have had pre
vious restaurant experience
and are In the process of add
ing a combined dining and
banquet room to the cafe.
When it is completed they
will be able to serve special
parties up to 23 or 30 people.
At present the hours have
been extended to from S a m.
to around 8 p.m., with mer
chant's lunch for the area

ties. They presently have two
additional helpers plus their
own son who works part time.
