Shows Increase
Interstate highway traffic
In Oregon Increased nearly 11
per cent in May over the same
time last year, according to
the Oregon state highway de
partment. Rural recorders showed a
2 8 per cent increase in traf
fic in May. Urban counts were
up 0.6 per cent on non-interstate
routes.
Exceptionally high increas
es, possibly due to Seattle
World's Fair traffic, were
noted on Interstate 00 north
Interstate 5, Highway 99, and
Highway 30.
The average daily traffic on
Main st. east of Geneva st. in
Mcdford during May was
down from last year. This
year's count was 10,761, while
in May, 1961, 11,311 vehicles
were counted.
Other areas of the valley
showed Increases In traffic
volume.
On Highway 66 five miles
east of Ashland 1,018 cars
were recorded in May, com
pared to 992 in May, 1961.
One mile west of Ruch on
Highway 238 785 vehicles
were recorded in May, and
771 in May, 1961. Recorded
four miles south of Shady
Covp on Highway 62 were
2,092 cars in May, 1962. In
May, 1961, 1,842 vehicles
were recorded.
Traffic declined two miles
south of Talent on Highway
99. A total of 9,767 vehicles
were recorded in May this
year, compared to 9,800 in
May, 1961.
Revised Airmail
Schedule Noted
Revised airmail schedules
have been announced by the
Mcdford post office.
Closing times for north
bound air mail will be 6:05
a.m., 8:30 a.m., 6 p.m., and
6:45 p.m.
Southbound closing times
will be 8:30 a.m., 4:15 p.m.,
and 6:45 p.m. Of these, two
flights will be airlift flights,
meaning that first class mail
will be traasported by air If j
room is available.
