FRIDAY. JUNE JS. 1961
lor baseball at Memorial field,
While City.
The two clubs meet In a
single Area 4, Southern divis
ion ruckus. It U set for 7:30
p.m.
Klamath, which sports a
10-3 full season record to
Central Point's 9-7, defeated
the Studs 3 to 1 In a league
game and 2 to 0 In s non-
counter in early June. How
ever, the Cheney team has
won more of the scuffles that
really count. The Studs are
3-1 and in second place in
the division. The Falcons
rank third with 2-2
Close scores in the early
meetings and the fact that
Central Point holds wins
over Medford and Grants
Pass, which in turn have
tipped the Falcons, are indi
cations that neither team can
be called the favorite to
night.
At Season Peaks
Both clubs with the games
now behind them are consid
ered at their season peaks
They are both very much in
the division race. A loss
would be damaging to Cen
tral Point at this stage and
bordering on disastrous to
Falcon pennant hopes.
Klamath enters the tussle
with the more impressive sta
tistical record. Kent Franklin
is the batting leader with
.400. Lanny Guyer is .396,
Larry Binney .333, Sherm
Allen .326, Dave Sacks .318
and Terry Maw .303. Marv
Edwards is .900 and Kent
Hunsaker .373 for fewer ap
pearances. The team is hitting
.321.
Lou Alvarcs, .333, and Pat
Pepper, .300, are top hitters
for the Studs. Mike Clines is
.297, Neil Rivenburg .240 and
Jeff Anhorn .229. The squad
is .203. While the average at
present is not Impressive, it is
climbing.
Pitching Racordt Shown
Marv Edwards and Jim
Jackson are the leading Fal
con pitchers with 3-1 records.
Gary Benson is 2-0. Edwards
likely will pitch against the
Studs tonight. Central Point
tossers are Mike Pepper, 2-2,
Larry Pepper, 2-3, Larry
Mason, 1-2, and Coach Bill
Askwith has announced his
choice among them this eve
ning. Mike Pepper has a 1.82
earned run average. Larry
Pepper is 2.99 and Mason
4.27.
Joining the Falcons last
wcik was Rich Carleton,
pitcher, from Merrill.
Tonight's game will be the
first appearance of the sea
son at White City for the Fal
cons.
Central Point will travel to
Grants Pass for Sunday Le
gion play. The Falcons will
be seen here again on Tues
day with Medford their foe.
Medford goes to Klamath
Falls on Sunday to meet the
Hawks.

Second half of the Jackson
County Softball association
schedule opens this evening
with one game each in the
Major and Minor leagues.
Sam Jennings company and
International Harvester will
play a Minor league game at
6:45 p.m. Second game will
match Grants Pass and Jay
Allen Cars in the Major
league.
Decision was made at a
league meeting last night to go
ahead with the second half as
planned. There had been some
sentiment against dividing
the circuit. Top five finishers
in the first half are in the
Major and the other teams in
the Minor,
At the end of the second
half schedule any ties will be
played off. Double elimina
tion playoffs are set among
the top four teams in each
division. Then, the winners of
the two runoffs will meet in a
two of three series for the
second half title.
Keith Schulz garage and
Grants Pass Elks tied for the
