Aldrich Letters
Given to Library
Eugene The correspond
ence of Edwin B. Aldrich,
former editor and publisher
of the Pendleton East Qregon
ian, has been placed in the
University of Oregon library
by Mrs. Aldrich of Pendleton.
Much of the correspondence,
extending from 1906 to 1934,
deals with the development
of the Columbia river as a
source of power. Aldrich, who
died in 1950, was recognized
as a leading proponent and or
ganizer of measures that led
to construction of McNary
; Dam.
The file also contains many
letters relating to political
matters, both in Oregon and
on the national scene. Major
letter groups represent sui;h
names as Charles McNary,
George Chamberlain, Fred-
erick Steiwer, and William G
McAdoo.
' The collection represents,
': said librarian Carl W. Hintz,
' a major addition to the li
brary's growing resources in
the- area of recent economic
and political history, partic-
"' ularly relating to the Colwm
bia river.
