Social Security Due on Domestics
A. G. Erickson, director of
Internal Revenue for Oregon,
tody had a word of tax ad
vice for housewives and other
employers of domestic work
ersdon't overlook possible
liability for Social Security
taxes.
If you pay a household
worker $50 or more in any
calendar quarter, you and the
employee become subject to
the Federal Insurance Contri
butions act, Mr. Erickson said.
This tax finances retirement
payments and other benefits
to workers qualifying.
The tax for this year is 3's
per cent for the employer and
3' t per cent for the employee,
or a total of 6, per cent of
the wages paid. The employer
is required to report and pay
the combined tax quarterly.
