European
Trip Plan
Of Yrekan
Yreka-Mrs. A. A. Sherman
of Yreka will leave June 30
by plane for London, Eng
land, on a two-months vaca
tion in Europe and a visit
with her son-in-law and
daughter. Major and Mrs.
John McDonagh.
Major McDonagh, who has
been stationed at Sculthorpe
near Sheringham, England,
where his family has been
residing, is being transferred
the middle of this month to
Lakenheath, England, where
he will be commanding of
ficer. His family will remain
in Sheringham until after
Mrs. Sherman's arrival in
England.
In July Mrs. Sherman will
meet a former college room
mate in Europe and will ac
company her on a visit to
Sweden. Mrs. Sherman also
plans to visit Paris, France,
and other places of interest.
Mrs. Sherman will be tak
en to San Francisco, from
where she will leave for Eu
rope, by her son, William
Sherman, who formerly play
ed professional football with
the Los Angeles Rams, now
is a partner and operator of
a trucking business, "The
Kams Express" in Los Ange
les. Co-owners of the business
in addition to Sherman, are
Don Burroughs, ex-Ram now
playing with the Philadelphia
Eagles, and George Strugar,
who is still with the Rams.
Sherman's wife and four
children will spend the sum
mer at the Sherman home
in Yreka. Richard Sherman,
another son will also visit
here this summer. They live
in Eureka.
Farewell Party
Held For Teels;
Reception Set
Yreka - A farewell party
was held on the patio of the
Warren Behnke home on Ce
dar street for the Rev. and
Mrs. Clyde Teel and son, Jon,
by the members and friends
of the Methodist church. Mr.
Tccl has been the pastor of
the Yreka church for the past
year and is now being trans
ferred to Colusa, Calif.
A purse was presented the
Teels and Mr. Teel said he
planned a trip to New Eng
land to visit his 94-year-old
father.
The Rev. and Mrs. Donald
Donihue will be the new min-ictoi-
anH familv from the
Wavside church at Vallejo, j
Calif. He assumed his duties
today.
A reception will be held in
their honor Wednesday, June
27, in the form of a potluck
and picnic to be held at the
Yreka City park at 6:30 p.m.
All families and friends of
the membership are invited
to attend. Those attending
are to take a hot dish or
salad and their own table
service. Coffee, punch and ice
cream will be furnished.
Teacher Leaves
For Institute
And Convention
Mrs. Maxine (Paul R.)
Smith, Madrona lane, left
yesterday by air for Boulder,
Colo., where she will enroll
fnr a special course at the
University of Colorado for
the summer month.
Mrs. Smith teaches foreign
languages at Medford High
school. The course in which
she will be enrolled is a Mo
dern Language institute given
as part o the National De
fense Education act. and cer
tain teachers are chosen lor
the work. Classes are concen
trated, and meet from 8:15
a.m. until 11 p m. for eight
weeks.
In the Medford teacher s sec
tion, the spoken German lan
auage and cultural aspects of
the language and linguistics
will be stressed.
During the course she will
bp granted leave to attend the
annual convention of the Na
tional Education association
in Denver since she is on the
resolutions and policy com
mittee of NEA.
