1 79 J SQUARE FEET
PLAN MO. 4905
This Week's Ranch and Modern Home
Regardless of how excep
tionally designed and well
liked a floor plan may be,
many home buyers would nev
er build a home unless they
also have an outstanding ex
terior. This is the way it
should be. Here is a home
that completely meets all de
sign requirements both in
terior and exterior.
Many homes have been built
that have impressive floor
plans and which can be strik
ingly decorated. Yet, the ex
teriors have obviously been
given little thought and have
not been properly planned.
Gain New Life
Building materials often
gain new life and meaning
when they are used in con
junction with other materials.
Here we show a few of the
many and wonderful ways to
add extra beauty and value to
your home by careful exte
rior design.
Used brick adapts itself to
many types of architecture
but none so well as the rustic-ranch
style home. It has
a fine overall texture and
complements both the wood
siding and cedar shake roof
ing. Used brick has been used
here in the chimney, as ve
neer, and to form a planter.
Turned posts extend from
the planter to support the
roof which continues past the
eave overhang at the entry.
This better protects the front
landing and entry from the
weather. The low roof also
adds design interest at just
the right spot while this roof
and the extension of the ga
rage roof form a frame for
the living room windows.
Diamond Pane Windows
Diamond pane windows
which are available in either
wood or aluminum have
been used exclusively in the
tront exterior. To tie in with
the window design and to
help provide light for the en
try, a diamond-pane, cross-
buck entry door has been
specified. A specially design
ed window shutter has been
used. This same design was
repeated in the garage door
SEEKS AGREEMENT - Ar
thur H. Dean, chief United
States negotiator at the Gen
eva Disarmament conference,
talks with newsmen in Wash
ington after reporting to Pres
ident Kennedy on the discus
sions. Dean forecast that an
agreement would be reached
some day with the Soviet
Union. But he said many
bridges of understanding
would have to be crossed first.

Mrs. Kennedy
Dunked in Pool
Washington -HOT- Mrs. Rob
ert F." Kennedy, wife of the
attorney general, fell into the
family pool during an outdoor
dinner dance Saturday night,
it was learned Wednesday.
So did a couple of guests,
Special Presidential Assistant
Arthur Schlesinger and Mrs.
Spencer Davis, a close friend
of Mrs. Kennedy.
A source close to the family
said Mrs. Kennedy, in full
evening attire, plunged into
the water after a leg of her
chair slipped off a plank
placed across the pool's edges.
The same thing happened
later to Schlesinger and Mrs.
Davis. All three changed
clothes and returned to the
party.
But another guest, astro
naut John Glenn, managed to
keep his chair upright al
though its legs were but three
inches from the edge of the
plank.
The seating arrangement
was necessary because with
300 guests, there barely was
room in the yard of the Mc
Lean, Va., estate to situate all
the tables and chairs.
NEW CONCEPT IN TRANSPORT This new Navy vehicle
is known as the Airoll, a new concept in off-the-road trans
port. The free-rolling tires mounted on the endless chain
can take the 19,000-pound vehicle over ordinarily im
possible terrain, such as deep mud, heavy snow and watery
swampland. It has 16 tires on each track. (UPI)

A new, exclusive Crescent
creation inspires many de
lightful flavor ideas: Mix it
witti melted butter to make
a sauce for green vege
tables. Sprinkle on fresh
sliced cucumbers or toma
toes. Try it in cole slaw or
potato salad. Adds won
drous flavor to seafoods,
meats and eggs, too!

and in the band sawn barge
rafters of the gable extending
over the bedroom wing.
The roof gables extend out
from the walls at an angle
and make the house look wider.
To enhance the appeal of
this home, a low pitched ga
ble roof was located over the
bedroom wing. This breaks
up the monotony of the single
ridge of the house. A light
fixture hangs from a beam
and supporting band sawn
brace which projects from
the gable end.
Both horizontal and board-
and-batt siding have been
used to good advantage so
that the home is very attrac
tive from any angle.
Imaginative thinking in the
layout of the floor plan plus
a wealth of notable and in
genious details adds up to
elegant living that will meet
the requirements of the most
exacting family.
Complete working drawings for
this plan can be purchased at a
cost of $7.50 for the first set and
$S for each additional set when
ordered at the same time. This
plan will be available at these
prices until Oct. 17. Please allow
two to three weeks for delivery.
If the above home does not en
tirely meet with your approval, a
new home plan hook. Ranch and
Modern Homes, can be purchased
for $2. Send all orders for either
plans or books to Hiawatha Estes,
post office box 404-T, Northridge,
Calif.
