Farewell Party Honors
Students, One Departs
Yreka - Josiane Patissier,
who has been attending Yreka
High school as an American
Field service exchange stu
dent from France, and Kaihy
Buscombe, who will spend
this summer in Denmark un
der the AFS Americans
Abroad plan, were honorees
at a farewell party recently
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Everett Barr.
Approximately 20 members
of the Yreka AFS chapter
and friends attended the
event. Visiting was enjoyed
by the group and refresh
ments were served.
Miss Patissier left for Sac
ramento from where she be
gan a tour of the United
States with other exchange
students on an AFS bus on
June 19.
The group will make sev
eral sight seeing stops before
arrival on the east coast on
July 9. After spending about
a week in New York and
Washington, D.C., Miss Patis
sier will leave by plane on
July 16 for Madrid, Spain,
and subsequently her home in
Courchevel, France.
Josiane, who has made her
home with Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Franson during her stay here,
stated that she has enjoyed
her year in Yreka very much
and hopes to return.
Miss Buscombe will be a
guest in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Leif Arp-Hansen, farm
ers in Espergarde, Denmark.
She is a junior at Yreka High
school and will leave Los An
geles on her journey to Den
mark soon.

and interesting recipe to serve
at a bridal shower or other

Mousse. This pink and red
mousse has a bottom layer
which combines lemon-flavored
gelatin, tomato sauce, cel
ery, olives and shredded tur
key or chicken; the top layer
uses unflavored gelatin, to
mato sauce and avocado.
For layer one use 1 package
unflavored gelatin, 3i cup
water, 1 8-ounce can tomato
sauce, 34 cup mayonnaise, 2
tablespoons lemon juice, V4
teaspoon Wor ccstershire
sauce, avocado slices and lem
on juice.
Soften gelatin in Vi cup
water. Dissolve with Vi cup
boiling water. Add tomato
sauce, mayonnaise, lemon
juice and Worcestershire
sauce; mix well. Chill until
slightly thickened. Dip avo
cado slices in lemon juice to
prevent d i s coloration. Ar
range in bottom of 1V4 Qt.
mold. Pour in gelatin mix
ture. Chill until set.
For layer two use 1 pack-;
age lemon flavored gelatin, j
teaspoon salt, 1 cup hot water,
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce, 1
tablespoon lemon juice, 'i cup
chopped celery, Vi cup sliced
ripe olives, 1 5-ounce can
boned turkey or chicken,
shredded (about V4 cup).
Dissolve gelatin and salt In
hot water. Add tomato sauce
and lemon juice. Chill until
slightly thickened. Fold in
celery, ripe olives and turkey
(or chicken). Pour into mold
on top of Layer I. Chill until
set. Unmold on bed of let
tuce. Serves six.

Family Leaves
For Anchorage
Sams Valley - Mrs. Ralph
Ellis left June 10 for Anchor
age, Alaska, to join her hus
band, who arrived there on
May 9. The Ellis family will
reside in Alaska where he has
accepted a position as survey
or with the Bureau of Land
Management. He was formerly
with the Bureau of Reclama
tion for 20 years.
Going with Mrs. Ellis were
the couple's three sons, Wil
liam, a Crater high student,
Edward, third grade student,
and Steven, a first grade stu
dent, at Sams Valley ele
mentary school. Miss Ruth El
lis, a student at Pacific Luth
eran university, Tacoma,
Wash., joined her mother and
brothers at Seattle. She plans
to return to her studies at the
university in the fall, after
i spending the summer In Alas
ka with her family.
Mrs. Ellis had been secre
tary of Sams Valley school the
past two years. Active for
several years in Parent Teach-
association activities she
served as president of the
Sams Valley PTA during the
past 1961-62 school year. She
was also active in Home Ex
tension work and taught Sun
day school at Ascension Luth
eran church in Medford.
Prior to Mrs. Ellis's depar
ture she was honored at a
combined birthday and fare
well party at the home of
Mrs. George Bush on Sams
Valley road. Guests were Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Bush, Engle
wood, Calif., Mrs. Edgar
Pleasant. Mrs. Donald Elder,
Mrs. Earl Bigham. Mrs. Her
m a n Priem, Mrs. Dalton
Straus. Mrs. Stan Hall, Mrs.
John Eekerman, Mrs. Lester
James. Mrs. Harry Ellis. Mrs.
Orval Mose, Mrs. Leslie Davis,
Mrs. Ramsey Thompson and
Mrs. Harold DeVos.
The guest of honor was pre
sented a gift on behalf of the
Sams Valley Home Extension
unit by her mother-in-law,
Mrs. Harry Ellis.
Mrs. Bush and Mrs. DeVos
took charge of games during
the afternoon.
Returns
Ashland - Mrs. Guy Clarke
of Fork street, returned the
first of the week from Texas
where she had been visiting
with her mother in L'valde,
and with brothers in Houston
and Dallas. She stopped in
San Francisco on her return
