Graham Declares
Crusade Success
Chicago - (UPD - Evangelist
Billy Graham has left here
with statistics showing his
19 -sermon Chicago Crusade
was a success.
"I preached to more people
in that period than in any
other two and one half weeks
of my life," Graham said.
Graham sidestepped a ques
tion about the relative success
of the crusade, commenting:
"If one person in this city
has changed his way of living,
I would say Chicago is a bet
ter place to live."
But the figures for the re
vivals which started May 30
and ended with a huge meet
ing in Soldier Field Sunday
afternoon, were impressive.
The Protestant evangelist
said more than 700,000 per
sons attended the sermons,
nearly 16,500 of these made
"decisions for Christ."
WELFARE MEETING SET
Salem - (UPD - The Oregon
Welfare commission will meet
here at 9 a.m. (PST) June 29,
in the State Public Service
building.

On the Air
By ELEANOR WIESE
Richard Bnone and Doug
1 a s Cnnipbcll's dramatized
reading ot "John Brown's
Body," Stephen Vincent Beli
efs Pulitzer Prizewinntnn
poem of the Civil war, will be
rehroadcast Thursday at 7:30
p.m. on K13ES TV.
This will be the first oppor.
tunily viewers in this area
will have had to see this
highly acclaimed production.
When It was first broadcast in
January of thi. year, critics
wore unqualified in their
praise.
Jack Gould of the New
York Times wrote: "The tele
vision presentation . . . was
superb. The exaltation of free
dom, the acoiiy of war and
the heartbreak of a divided
nation were magnificently
realized In forty-odd minutes
of TV that were strikingly
creative and deeply stirring
... .ft was spoken with vigor
and sensitivity by an inspired
company led by Richard
Boone."
Other critics described the
dramatization as "brilliant
and exciting , . , moving . . .
eloquent ... a rare hour of
beauty and truth ... a dis
tinguished TV work of power
and inspiration."
In response to this acclaim
and to i ie volume of lauda
tory phone calls, telegrams
and letters from viewers re
questing another chance to sin
the program, CBS i' repeat
ing the show In prime evening
time Thursday.
