This is one of four license

Lak Crttk
Charles Ganzel of the
bureau of land management,
showed a film entitled "Rogue
River Country" prior to the
opening of Lake Creek grange
June meeting. The film
showed many scenes of wild
life in the valley. The film is
available for any organiza
tion by contacting the bureau
of the department of the in
terior. Ganzel was accompan
ied by his wife and two
daughters. Lecturer Betty
Bradshaw had prepared the
program.
Faye George, of the educa
tional committee, gave a re
port of an article on "Our
English Language and Use at
the Present Time". He said
that at the present time Eng
lish is almost the universal
language. The Russian and
Chinese schools teach Eng
lish to all students and the
Russians have written a story
on "Goldilocks" claiming the
origin of it. Airplane pilots
use the English language, he
explained, adding that it is a
simple language to learn. The
construction of sentences is
easy to learn, according to the
article, but explained that the
spelling of English is diffi
cult. Some words are interna
tional, such as O.K. and ham
burger. The Grange contributed to
the fund necessary for John
Patrick to go on the People-
to-People program in Europe
this summer. John Is a FFA
student from Eagle Point
High school. He will return
to the Grange and give a
resume of his trip.
Ernest Burrell was elected
as an alternate delegate to
State Grange meeting at
Grants Pass this week.
A clean-up day will be held
at the Grange grounds very
soon. The dry grass becomes
a fire hazard.
After the closing of Grange,
Burrell, Carl Riblett, Mary
Riblett and Leland Charley
played their musical instru
ments. Faye and Loyd George
brought strawberries from
their garden for the shortcake
refreshments.
The next Grange meeting
will be July 13 at 8:30 p.m.
Phoanix Grange
At the recent meeting of
Phoenix Grange there was
some discussion on the activ
ities of the State Grange con
vention that is being held in
Grants Pass.
Charles Hockersmith re
ported on the growing inter
est of alfalfa seed as a crop
and an increasing market for
anyone interested in this
product. He said prices on
other farm items varied
slightly.
The women were reminded
by Home Economics chairman
Mrs. Sol Cox, about the cookie
contest and prizes, also about
the canning contest.
Pamphlets on the display
table were explained by Mrs.
Olin Poe and she mentioned
the Rose show that will be in
Grants Pass June 23.
The meeting recessed dur
ing the literary program
while Mr. and Mrs. Leroy
Thompson showed slides of
various birds. Most of the pic
tures were taken locally.
The resignation of David
Nahas as gatekeeper was ac
cepted and Robert Meadows
was elected to the office. Mrs.
Poe conferred the obligation.
A visitor from out of town
was Mrs. Harold Dinsmore.
Another visitor was W. S.
Darby of Griffin Creek
Grange.
The serving committee was
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hutton
and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Klarin.
