State Board Gives Approval to New Education Center

school district No. 62, Oregon
City. This means state aid
will continue for three voca
tionp'i courses now being
taught in Oregon City High
School,
Several board members ex
pressed reservations about
the action, since it might
leave the Impression with
Clackamas County voters that
c.eation of the center was
against the voters wishes.

Portland Firm Gets
U. S. Navy Contract
Portland - orpp - Willamette
Iron and Steel Co., Portland,
has been awarded a $160,000
contract by the Navy depart
ment for first phase reactiva
tion of the tanker Mission
Santa Clara.
The vessel has been in
mothballs for several years
and was recently towed to Se
atle for bidding purposes.
Wisco officials said they ex
pect work to begin June 21.

resolution, but voted for it,
included Thomas Scanlon,
Portland, and S. E. Broigoitti
of Helix.
LA Woman Chosen
'Man of the Year"
Los Angeles - (UPD - Miss
Anita Loeber, an analyst on
the staff of the county man
ager, held an unexpected
honor Tuesday-she has been
named "Man of t h e Year"
among the nation's top man
agement executives.
By winning the award from
Systems and Procedures Asso
ciation, an international group
of ranking businessmen, Miss
Loeber is in the running for
the worldwide title of man
agement "Man of the Year."
Asked how she felt about
the title, Miss Loeber said, "It
was the only one they had. I
guess nobody expected a
woman to win this one."
Mental Health Clinic Program Gets New Boost
Salem - IUPD - Oregon's new I
program of community mental
health clinics went into high
gear Tuesday as the State
Board of Control approved a
plan of operation, transfer of
a staff official from Portland
to Salem, and named an ad
visory committee.
The board's new mental
health division will be bol
stered by shifting of the State
Board of Health's community
health services section in
Portland to Salem, and put
ting it under the new division
here. Costs of the transfer
were authorized.

PLANS APPROVED
Eugene UPI Plans for a
marine science laboratory on
Yaquina Bay prepared by
Oregon State university and
the city of Newport were ap
proved Monday at a meeting
of the building committee of
the State Board of Higher
Education.

building in Portland. There
was one higher bidder.
- Authorized purchase of
the Bethany Bible Church in
the Capitol Mall area here for
$63,500.
