Many people write to say
that their son is having one
boil after another, and they
wonder what to do. The first
thing is to get his blood sugar
measured because one of the
symptoms of an unrecognized
diabetes can be a crop of
boils. People who have one
after another in the arm-pit
sometimes can be cured if
surgeon will remove the skin
from that area and replace
it with skin taken from some
other part of the body.
A good hint about boils is
never to squeeze them and
spread the pus around on the
nearby skin. That is a good
way in which to get more
boils. Many years ago, when
I was a young man, I had a
long siege with bolls and
learned that the best way of
getting rid of them was never
to squeeze them, but to let
the core dry up. A good thing
of course, is to go to a good
skin specialist to see if he can
do anything to get rid of the
infection.
A Spastic Colon
Many nervous women write
to ask about a spastic colon
and the abdominal pain that
they have which is sup.
posed to be due to the spas
ticity of the colon on the left
side of the abdomen. I say
"supposed" because I am not
sure that the colon is t h e
cause of their pain. One fact
that fills me with doubt Is
that, in all people, the x-ray
films of an empty colon (with
traces of barium outlining the
mucous or inner coat of the
bowel) show signs that could
be interpreted as spasm (spas
ticity). The best reliever of
a nervous "colitis is codeine.
Heredity is an important
factor In colitis. To know

today that continued deterior-
tion of U.S.-Philippine rela
tions might eventually endan
ger American rights to key
military bases here, but he
said he Is making every effort
to halt this deterioration.
In an exclusive interview

lations between the two coun
tries which have been serious
ly strained since failure of
the U. S. Congress to pass a
bill to pay $73 million in war
damages to the Philippines.
Macapagal said his people
were "hit between the eyes"
by Congress' refusal to pro
vide money to meet a war
time commitment to pay for
war damage suffered by the
Philippines. He said Congress
action "caused nationwide
consternation and disappoint
ment, even indignation."
He was asked if he foresaw
possible In Hi re difficulties
over use of military bases in
the Philippines which the
United States holds under 99
year leases negotiated in 1947.
People Decide
"Normally I would say no,"
he replied. "But unless the
feeling o f disappointment
among the people is changed,
officials of the government
are constrained to reflect the
attitude of our people.
"As the saying goes, love
begets love, so the attitude
of one side produces a recip
rocal sentiment on the other.
The affection and enthusiasm
of our people for the U. S.
would be affected If favorable
action on the war damage bill
is not taken. That is why I
am making every effort to
arrest this deterioration."

Trial Continues
Portland - IUPII - The first
degree murder trail of Rich
ard B. Schwensen, 27, Port
land, continued in circuit
court today.
Schwensen, a former stu
dent at Portland State Col
lege, is charged in the death
of Mrs. Jean Rosaria Bussey,
29. Portland, last fall.
The trial may go to the
jury Tuesday.

serious problems facing his
government today are the
economy and corruption. He
said the order of the prob
lems was reversed when he
took office last Dec. 30, but
that' corruption now has been
brought under control.
The Phillipines have been
in economic difficulties be
cause of an unfavorable bal
ance of trade which contrib
uted to a heavy drain on the
nation's foreign exchange
holdings.

million friends," died Friday
at her home after a brief ill
ness. She was 72.
Man Killed While
Drilling Water Well
Bend - (UPII - A 60-year-old
man was injured fatally near
here Saturday while drilling
a water well.
The victim was Ray Bow
man of Bend. Part of the well
rigging fell on him. He died
at a Bend hospital shortly
after being admitted.
The accident occurred north
of the city off U.S. Highway
97. He was working alone.

over her objection. The search
and seizure were not made
as an incident to a lawful ar
rest and were made without
a search warrant, and were
therefore clearly illegal.

amendment of the United
States constitution against un
reasonable searches and seiz
ures is inadmissible in state
courts, as well as federal
