of contacting the Shoehorn
team in Reno, Nevada, to
challenge them.
These will be in addition to
the three special match races
between the meets two fastest
cars for the "Mr. Eliminator"
Competition will be the
keynote at this week end's
Spring Championship drag
races at the Medford Drag
strip.
Action gets under way to
morrow at 10 a.m. with early
timed runs. Highlites of Sat
urday activity will be tuning
and timed runs by many of
the dragsters entered in the
meet and a series of special
"grudge" races later in the
afternoon.
Club contention should be
very keen with several in the
running for special prizes put
up by Southern Oregon Tim
ing association for the out
standing clubs. At least five
hot-rod groups will make an
all out attempt to cop the
honors in this division.
One of the strongest clubs
may be the KLAN Racing
team from Springlield. Last
fall this group of racftrs won
top club honors with the most
cars entered and also won
more trophies than any other
contending group.
California Clubs
This weekend the KLAN.
will meet stiff competition
from two California clubs.
Coming from Santa Clara
with several entries, includ
ing three in the dragster divi
sion, is the Coilers Racing
team. Several of the cars are
record holders at Bay area
drag strips and are well
known for putting on a good
show for contestants and spec
tators. Sacramento, Calif., will
send a strong delegation from
the Capitol Auto club, repre
senting eight classes of com
petition. Included in the Cap
itol club's entries are several
roadsters and two gas class
coupes that are expected to
speed to at least 100 miles
per hour.
Many towns and communi

Caifornia will be represented
with club entries in many
divisions.
SOTA has put up two spe
cial prizes of S25 each to the
outstanding groups of racers.
Challenge Races
Latest word from the rac
ing camp of Skeans-Pickering
in Vancouver, Wash., is that
they are arranging a series of
challenge races with other
top entries of the meet. In a
phone call from Dave Skeans
yesterday he told SOTA offi
cials he had already made ar-1 to start at 1:30 p.m
rangemcnt for one of the I first games count
races and was in the process
title. Mr. Eliminator races
will be run on Sunday. .
Site of the races is seven
miles north of Medford off
the Crater Lake highway in
west White City. Concessions
will be available at the track.
Medford, CP Studs
To Tangle Tonight
Medford and Central Point
American Legion baseball
nines collide this evening in
their second meeting of the
season.
The two aggregations, who
have a spirited rivalry, clash
at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial field,
White City.
This tussle will find CP's
Cheney Studs trying to main
tain the upper hand and Med
ford's Cokes aiming to even
the situation for a 1 to 0 set
back one week ago.
Tonight's tussle is the final
non-league tuneup for each
team. They open Southern di
vision play in Area 4 on Sun
day on different diamonds.
The tangle last week was
a topnotch skirmish and the
Studs and Cokes will try to
make this one another in the
same vein. Likely pitcher for
Medford is Stuart Young. He
took last week's loss although
giving up just two hits, while
the Cokes got five. Either
Mike or Larry Pepper could
be the chucker for Central
Point.
The Cokes draw their tal
ent from Medford high and
Central Point's Studs get
their players from Crater
high. Both clubs are fortified
by varsity players from the
two schools.
This will be just the second
Came of the season for Med
ford. Central Point is 2-3 after
contests with Grants Pass and
Roseburg, as well as Medford.
In the league openers on
Sunday, Central Point will
play the Klamath Falls Fal
cons at Klamath Falls and
Medford will go to Grants
Pass. Doublehcaders are set
Only the
in the
Southern division standings.
STUD'S SAC KM AN Pat
Pepper, above, is the second
sacker for the Central Point
Cheney Studs who play Med
ford in an American Legion
junior baseball game this
evening at Memorial field
White City.
