Two Valley Men
To Receive MD
Degrees Friday
Two Medford High school
graduates will receive the de
gree of doctor of medicine at
the University of Oregon Med
ical school commencement
ceremonies June 8 in Port
land. Thomas Andrew Gail, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Budd W. Gail,
416 South Groveland ave.,
will take his internship at the
U. S. Naval hospital in San
Diego, Calif. He is also a
graduate of Willamette uni
versity. Richard Haviland Johnson,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry
M. Johnson, formerly of Med
ford and now of Rcedsport,
is one of six candidates who
will receive two degrees. In
addition of the doctor of med
icine he will receive a master
of science in medical psychol
ogy. A graduate of the Uni
versity of Oregon, he will
take his internship at Good
Samaritan hospital, Portland.
Dr. Arthur S. Flemming,
president of the University of
Oregon, Eugene, will deliver
the principal address at the
Medical school's 75th com
mencement. The class will be
presented by Dr. D. W. E.
Baird, medical school dean,
and Dr. Flemming will confer

Coos Bay, the Prehistoric
garet Woodruff, was reported
in satisfactory condition at a
hospital here today following
a week end boating accident

woman apparently jumped to
her death from the Golden
Gate bridge Saturday.
The California highway pa
trol said the victim was iden
tified as Jo Ann Landry, 28.
Papers in her purse, found
near the railing on the east
side of the bridge, indicated
that she had been discharged
from Western Slate hospital,
Fort Steilacoom, Wash., on
May 24.
Two train tickets one
from Seattle to Oakland, the
other from Seattle to San
Francisco, and both dated
May 31 also were found
in the purse. Other papers in
dicated that she was married
to a merchant seaman who
sails out of Bremerton, Wash.,
or Seattle.
No suicide notes were found.

"Gamblers Anonymous"
something like the groups of
Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-
Anon, Al-Ateen and Divorcees
Anonymous.
On Overcoming Sterility
The other day when in
Houston, I dropped in to visit
Dr. Erwin O. Strassmann. He,
an able gynecologist, for
years has been a student of
sterility in women. In many
cases, of course, the woman's
failure to conceive is her hus
band's fault and not hers
Occasionally, something can
be done to make him more
fertile, but often nothing can
be done for him.
When the husband is all
right and the women is not
functioning well, something
can sometimes be done with
drugs. That it can be done is
shown by the fact that the
walls of Dr. Strassmann's ex
amining room are covered
with pictures of women, each
with a child or two that the
woman bore after she had
been treated for her infertil
ity. Dr. Strassmann now in
sists that every one of his
patients, when she gets the
child that her arms have been
aching for, will send him
picture of herself and her
baby.
