Bishop Walter H. Jensen of
the Latter Day Saints church,
First Ward, read the rites in
the presence of about 20
guests.

Mr. Steinmetz gave his
daughter in marriage.
For her wedding the bride
chose a white dacron suit and
her headpiece was of tiered
chiffon held by a velvet bow.
She carried pink carnations
on a white Bible.
Miss Smith wore a pink
full skirted frock.
The Steinmetz home was
decorated with baskets of
pink gladiolus arranged with
white carnations and stock.
Guests at the wedding and
reception which followed in
cluded the bride's grandmoth
er, Mrs. Mary E. Cox, Boise,
Idaho, and Mrs. Kenard Har
per, Eugene, an aunt of the
bride.
Both the bride and bride
groom are students at Med
ford High school. The bride
groom also is employed at the
Big-Y Shopping center.
Previous to the wedding
the bride was honored at
three showers. On May 24

June 8 with Mrs. William

Mr. and and Mrs. Gene Al
len Holt, whose marriage took
place in February, are now
living at 236 South Oakdale
(venue, Medford. Mrs, Holt
was honored reconlly at two
parties given in Ashland.

given Tuesday evening for
Mrs. Gene Allen Holt. More
than 50 guests attended the
party given in the new Pres
byterian church Fireside
room. The bride is the former
Miss Kathleen Grimm.
Hostesses for the shower
were the Mesdames B. J. Hol
land. David Lindsay. Ralph
Woods and Martha Vanden
burgh. Mrs. Ed Grimm and
Mrs. George A. Holt, mothers
of the ncwlyweds, were spe

Following an amusing poem
of advice read by Mrs. Hol
land, the bride opened the
gaily wrapped gifts piled
high on a long table. Refresh
ments served at the conclu
sion of the evening were in
the prevailing pink and white
color scheme.
Mr. and Mrs. Holt, who
were married February 2 in
Carson City, Nev., are making
their home at 238 South Oak
dale avenue, Medford. The
bride is attending Southern
Oregon college and her hus
band is assistant manager of
Sambos Pancake House in
Mediord. Parents of the cou
ple are Mr and Mrs. Ed
Grimm. 1800 Eagle Mill road.

George A. Holt, Fern Valley
road. Talent.
Mrs. Holt was honored on
Monday night at a miscella
neous shower given by former
high school friends. Miss Pa
tricia Chiidrelh and Miss
Virkl Sessions, at the Sessions
home.

for a meeting of the Howard
Garden club held recently in
the home of Mrs. Clarence
Blacx. Mrs. Robert Ottoman

part of Oregon.
During the business meet
ing plans were made for a
picnic in Ashland park. This
will be the final meeting of
the season. Members are in
vited to take guests. A tour
of the park will close the
day.

daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Cook, Reno, Nev., and
Robert Scott Tarns, son of
Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Tarns, 219
South Holly street, Medford,
were married in 8 o'clock eve
ning ceremonies May 4 In the
Reno St. Luke's Lutheran
church. The Rev. A. Mueller
performed the ceremony.
Miss Joan Burchett was the
bride's maid of honor and
Phillip Ferrow of Stead Air
Force base, Reno, was best
man. Ushers were Govdon L.
Cook Jr., a brother of the
bride, who also lighted the
candles.

The bride, a member of a
pioneer Nevada family, wore
a dress of white saten and
lace with bolero jacket. Her
hat was 6f white net. She car
ried a bouquet of mixed white
and red flowers.
The mart of honor was
dressed in white silk and her
flowers and accessories were
pink.
While stock and snap
dragons decorated the church.
The reception was held in
the church rooms. Mrs. Al
bert Court, aunt of the bride,
cut the cake, using an heir
loom knife belonging to a
grandmother of the bride
groom.
Mrs. Jack Sanders, a sister
of the bridegroom, registered
the guests using an heirloom
pen also belonging to the fam
ily of the bridegroom.
About 150 persons attended
the wedding and reception.
From out of town were Mr,
and Mrs. Gary Schowalter,
Sacramento, Calif., Mr. and
Mrs. E. C. Tarns, the bride
groom's parents, Mrs. Sanders
and Karla Jane Sanders, and
Miss Teresa Mee, all of Med
ford. The bride is a 1961 gradu
ate of Reno High school. She
is employed by the Beneficial
Finance company in Reno.
The bridegroom was grad
uated from Medford High
school and attended Southern
Oregon college before enter
ing the Air Force. He is sta
tioned at Stead Air Force
base, Reno, as an instructor.
He is an aviation cadet.
For traveling the bride
wore an apricot linen suit
with while accessories.
They made their wedding
trip to Lake Tahoe and visit
ed briefly in Medford as
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thorri
as Tarns.

Five Rogue Valley Girl
Scouts Will Attend Meet
Five Girl Scouts of the
Rogue Valley Girl Scout
council will travel to Salem
later this month to attend a
citizenship conference of the
Santiam Girl Scout council of
Region 11. About 100 girls
from Montana, Oregon, Wash
ington and Idaho wiil attend.

ted to serve as assembly
chairman for one of the gen
eral assembly sessions, it has
been announced from the San
tiam council. The meeting is
set for the week of June 18
through June 23.

The Girl Scouts at the meet
ing wiil range from 13 to 17
years old and will be housed
in Baxter hall dormitory dur
ing their week long stay.
As preparation for the con
ference, delegates have been
participating in projects deal
ing in government on a lo
cal level In their own com
munities. During the confer
ence they well report on their
progress in addition to learn
ing how city, county, and
state governments function
and work together to achieve
unity of purpose. They will
hear lectures by noted speak
ers and make tours of the cap
ital building, the supreme
court and state hospital.
Recreation facilities will in
clude swimming, tennis and
other organized sports. Fire
sides in the evenings will pro
vide time for relaxation and
informal discussions. A spe
cial feature will be a tour
to historic Champoeg State
park when delegates will
have as their guests Boy

council in Salem.

completed Thursday evening
when 40 Ashland women met I
in the Gresham lecture room'
of the public library. Mrs. Roy i
ftesi, who has been serving
as temporal y chairman during
several weeks of preliminary
planning, conducted the ses-j
sion.
Present to assist in the Ash
land unit formation was Mrs.
Frank Anderson, Eugene, a
member of the state board,
who will serve as advisor un
til the unit qualifies for full
membership. During the pro
visional period study of local
government and state and na
tional issues will be stressed.
At the meeting in the li
brary Miss Florence Lusted
and Mrs. John Wenker pre
sented an outline of their re
search linto the background
of Ashland and of its current
status. This initial study will
be the basis for one of the
year's requirements, "Know
Your Town Government." Ma
terial and sources of informa
tion will be compiled and
used in a comprehensive bro
chure which will be avail
able to the public.
Study Divisions
Mrs. Donald Moore present
ed a brief analysis of the vari
ous study divisions suggested
for the first year. According
to Mrs, Moore, there are four
from which to choose. On
the state level are revision of
the state United Nations and
the U.S. foreign policy are
the two subjects listed.
