Large Delegation
At PTA Convention
A large delegation of Jack
ton county Parent-Teacher as
sociation officers and mem
bers are in Portland today to
attend opening sessions of the
66th annual National Con
gress of Parents and Teach
ers being held in the Port
land Public auditorium. The
meetings will continue
through May 23.
The group is headed by
Mrs. Chester Keene Jr., of
Lone Pine school, president
of the Jackson County Coun
cil of Parent-Teacher associ
ations, with Mrs. Leigh Gusti
son, Medford. past president
of the Oregon Congress of
Parents and Teachers.
Election of officers is on the
agenda for Tuesday. The
Jackson county voting dele
gates are Mrs. Glen Stewart,
secretary of Jackson county
council, from Lincoln school;
Mrs. Donald deHaven, Eagle
Point, treasurer; Mrs. Ronald
Keesling, Phoenix - T a 1 e n t,
first vice president, and Mrs.
Keene, president. Most of
Jackson county's 35 PTA

Mrs. Clifford N. Jenkins of
Roslyn Heights, N.Y., retiring
president, will preside for the
meetings. Registrations are
being held today and tomor
row. An organ recital and
vesper service is scheduled
for today at 3:45 p.m., in the
Portland First Presbyterian
church, when Dr. Gerald Wal
lace, superintendent nf Cor
vallis Public schools, also will
speak.
Mrs. Jennelle Moorhead, a
past president of the Oregon
Congress and first vice-president
of the National Con
gress, is a member of the
nominating committee. Four
national officers are to be
elected.
"New Adventures in PTA
Leadership and Responsi
bility," is theme of the
meeting. Mrs. Jenkins will
give the keynote address to
be followed by a commentary
by Harry and Bonaro Over
street, noted adult educators
and co-authors of "What We
Must Know About Commu
nism and The War Called
Peace."
Other main addresses will
be given by such outstanding
speakers as Dr. Andrew Holt,
president, University of Ten
nessee; Dr. I. James Quillen,
dean, School of Education.
Stanford university; and
Charles Vetter, junior train
ing division of the United
States information agency.
The underlying structure of
the convention will be de
termined by the focal ele
ments of the current Action
program.
This is the first national
convention of the group in
Portland since 1915.
Installation Is
Slated by Unit
Hillcrest Extension unit of
ficers will be installed at a
luncheon meeting of the
group set for Wednesday,
May 23 at 10:30 a.m., in the
home of Mrs. Frank Grover,
Route 3, Box 169-B-3, Cherry
lane. Mrs. Warren Kelsoe
will conduct installations, and
also give a resume of a recent
council meeting held at Cor
vallis. The lesson, "Accessories in
the Home," wili he given by
Mrs. Claude Dean and Mrs.
Frank Grover.
A covered dish luncheon
will be served and members
should call Mrs. Richard
Sturgill, 773-3563 in regard to
the menu.

for a potluck luncheon and

The bride Is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Chad Hoover,
Kerby, and the bridegroorri Is
a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
C. Robin.
The bride's gown was of
white net over satin designed
with a matching lace Jacket.
She carried white carnations
on a white Bible.
Miss Arlene Hoover, sister
of the bride, and Miss Delecia
Robin, sister of the bride
groom, were bridesmaids.
Their pink gowns were full
skirted and they wore floral
head pieces to match their
gowns. Their corsages were

Mrs. William Burch fur
nished the wedding music.
For her daughter's wed
ding, Mrs. Hoover wore
beige dress and the bride
groom's mother was dressed in
navy blue.
