Progress is being made in
education in Jackson county.
Young people are staying
in scnool longer and getting
more education, presumably,
than the same age group got
1U years ago.
The fact that there are ad
vantages that flow from more
complete schooling is rapid
ly seeping through to the cur
rent student body. They have
come to realize, as their par
ents already had, that edu
cation pays off at least fi
nancially.
Gathered In Census
Figures gathered during the
recent national census and
just released show that the
amount ot formal education

That is a greater amount of

Impressed With Reports
They have become impress-

industry that education and

One recent study, by the
University of Michigan, shows
that more than 33 per cent
or mose wno work for others
and do not have a high
school diploma found them
selves unemployed at some
time during the past five
years. By contrast, only 16
per cent or inose with some
training beyond high school
were similarly affected.
Some specific figures on
how a person's earning ca
paclty varies with the amount
of schooling he has under
his belt are given by the U.S
Department of Labor.
Lifetime Income
In Its report on the money
value of an education, it lists
$182,000 as the average life
time income for a man who is
an elementary school gradu
ate, $258,000 for a high school
graduate and $435,000 for a
college graduate.
