GP Nursing Home Files Complaint Against New State Fire Code

The latest complaint is from
Parkview Nursing Home,
Grants Pass. The home says
it was certified in the past
but now haa been told to in
stall fire curtains and make
other improvements. A date
for a hearing will be set
later.

Six Months To Comply
The new code went into ef
fect Jan. 1, 1962, and all in
stitutions must be certified by
the state by June 30. The fire
marshal inspects all facilities
and certifies their safety to
the State Board of Health,
which in turn certifies them
for operation.
Korlann revealed he has
asked the attorney general for
another opinion - on whether
the tire marshal can certify
institutions not yet complying
but in the process of doing so.

Explosive Fire Damages

Prineville - (UPD - An ex
plosive fire that police said
was set did extensive damage
Friday night to the home of
Central Oregonian editor Ron
Swift, who has been receiv
ing threats over water fluori
dation. The flash fire blew out win
dows in the living -oom and
bedroom. Police said an ex
plosive substance, such as gas
and oil, had been poured
around the house.
Swift, who is 25 and be
came editor of the newspaper
earlier this year, has receiv
ed threats during the past
month over his paper's publi
cation of information about
a ballot measure to fluoridate
the water supply. The propos
al goes before the voters May
18.
On April 28, Swift called
the fire department when he
saw a roll of paper burning
in the spout of the gas tank
of his car. The following
morning a similar newspaper
bomb was found in an old
car sitting on a lot about 12

The next day the newspa
per received an anonymous
card with pasted out words
reading: "More cars if poison
goes in water.

Of Theft Charge

leader, has been found inno

But Diaz-Infante, 39. was
returned to county jail after
the jury returned the verdict
on the grand theft charge. He
