Shady Cot Gnngi
The Shady Cov Grange
met in the music room of the
Shady Cove school on April
21 with Master Johnny Minor
presiding.
Mrs. Louis Jhisenberry gave
the quarterly report of the
Home Economics club. The
proceeds from the rummage
sale in March was turned
over for the Grange building
fund. Also a detailed report
on the dinner given for the
truck driveis of the Steve
Wilson company for their
work in hauling Us for the
Grange aiffl other civil or
ganizations. The Grange property on
Long Branch is to be sold -and
the money put in the
building fund.
A 25 4-H scholarship was
given to the Jackson County
4-H Leaders association.
Those reported on the sick
list were Mrs. Madeline Weils,
Mrs. Agnes Brown, Mrs. Er
nie Seggessenman and Wally
Cross.
Mrs. -Nellie Motsenbaker
and C. Langlo were elected to
the executive committee.
Ray Deister suggeited the
Grangers save their scrap Iron
and when a load was ready
he'd take it to Medford. The
sale of it would also add ')
the building fund.
The April HEC meeting
waa at' the Jennie Linden
home on Kee lane. The May
8 HEC meeting will be at the
Bert Clark ranch on Big
Butte.
Lecturer Cecil Kee had as
part of the program a treasure
hunt pertaining to Easter.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Harper
and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Dusen
berry were on the serving
committee.
The next Grange meeting
will be May 8.
Gold Hill Grange
Gold Hill Grange met in a
short' session Thursday, April
19, preceded by a potluck sup
per at 6:30 p.m. and a two
hour program of poetry, seri
ous readings, oratory, and a
humorous aeotion put on by
the school students in the
community.
The students are all contest
winners in their particular di
vision. Allen Hill was director
of the humorous section; Ida
von Buskirk, serious; Mildred
Black, poetry; Mildred Black
and Gilbert Mack, oratory.
The Grange charter was
draped for Maud G ly who
died in Arizona where the
and her husband, John Gray
were spending the winter.
Gray is reported in the hospi
tal at Wlckenburg, Ariz. Ber
tha Potter was reported ill at
her home in Gold Hill.
The Grange voted to hold
the potluck supper on the la.it
meeting night of each quar
ter Instead of the last meet
ing of each month.

ed fire insurance delegate for
the meeting to be held on
Sunday before the State
Grange meeting In Grant
Pass. Slate Grange will be In
session Monday, June 18,
through June 23. On May 17
Mildred Black's sixth and
seventh graders will give a
program at Gold Hill Grange
entitled, "Modern Times
Through Ancient Eyes."
Phoenix Grange
Real property lax and the
present burden on agriculture
will be discussed at an organ
izational meeting at Phoenix
Grange, May 8, at 8 p.m.

ed to listen to representatives
from the Cattlemen's associa
tion; Grange; Fruit Growers
association and the Farm Bu
reau. The purpose la to figure
fair and equitable tax basis
for agriculture. Women at
tending are asked to take
cookies.

Melvin Lattie, legislative
chairman, informed members
about a tax meeting he attend
ed where It was learned that
a farmer's tax Is estimated at
100 lyr cent more than the
professional man. He said sev
eral solutions were suggested.
