Reception Honors
Newlywed Couple
Mr. and Mrs. James Edward
Pletsch of Monroe, Ore., who
are newly married, were hon
ored at a reception April 21
at the home of the bride
groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John H. Pletsch, 18 Willam
ette avenue. The bride Is the
former Miss Marilee Ann Ed
miston, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Edmiston, Eugene.
The wedding was an event of
April 14 in Eugene.
About 80 guests attended
the reception held at the
Pletsch home. The rooms were
decorated in pink and white
and the reception table was
covered with a pink cloth and
centered wjth an arrangement
of pink tulips, white stocks
and doves.
Serving were Mrs. H. J.
Casson, Mrs. P. R. Schuler,
Mrs. Grover Corum, Mrs. Wil
liam E. Frake and Mrs. S. S.
Poirier.
Mr. and Mrs. Pletsch went
north for the wedding which
was held in the Eugene First
Baptist church at S o'clock In
the afternoon. The Rev. Mar
vin Webster officiated. The
bride was escorted by Earl
McNutt, her great-uncle.
Her attendants were Miss
Lou Elsa Vocgtly, Mcdford,
maid of honor; Miss Barbara
Janzig, Eugene, Miss Gladys
Kafoury of Portland, Mrs. El
mer Keller of Eugene, and
Miss Jean Pletsch, the bride
groom's sister.
The bride's gown was de
signed with a bodice of Bel
gian lace and Italian neckline.
Appliques of lace trimmed the
full tulle skirt. She wore a
veil of silk illusion held from
a lace shell cap embroidered

Hibbard, to James Chittick,

A. Chittick, Albany, Ore. A
summer wedding is planned.
The bride-elect is a music
instructor in the Salem ele
mentary schools and teaches
flute and piano as well as
choral groups. She is a 195B
graduate of the University of
Oregon.
Her fiance is a graduate of
San Francisco Slate college
and he teaches social studies
and dramatics in the San
Francisco schools.

were a gift from the bride
groom. The bridal bouquet
was of white roses and steph-
anotls.
The attendants wore gowns
of pink organza over taffeta
with velvet belts and head
bands. All carried bouquets of
white carnations.
Jeanne Perry was flower
girl and she also wore a gown
of pink organza.
Michael McNutt carried the
rings.
Gary Fendell was best man
and seating the guests were
Jeff Turay, Elmer Keller,
Scott Philips, Mcdford, and
Robert Edmiston. Lowell
Chase sang and Mrs. Charles
Roffe was accompanist.
At the reception in the
Rhoda McNutt room, Mrs.
Wilbur Williams of Oakridge,
aunt of the bride, cut the
bride's cake; Mrs. Arthur Cal
loway, Mrs. Rudy Ness and
Mrs. Stanley Summers served
the bridegroom's cake. Mrs.
Ralph Gibbs poured and Mrs.
Amos Gilmour served punch.
Miss Molly McNutt had the
guest book and Miss Kalhe
rine Williams and Mrs. Gary
Richardson attended the gifts.
For her daughter's wedding,
Mrs. Edmiston wore a beige
lace jacket dress with flow
ered hat, and Mrs. Pletsch was
dressed in a light green en
semble of salin-back shantung.
Their corsages were of carna
tions and stcphanotis.
Others from Medford who
attended the wedding were
Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Ruegger,
James and Bill Frake, Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Underwood and Mr.
and Mrs. Kenneth Wonderly.
Among out-of-town guests
at the wedding was the bride
groom's grandmother, Mrs. A.
D. Byram of Kelso, Wash.
Both young people are Uni
versity of Oregon graduates
and both were majors in mu
sic. The bride, a pianist, is a
member of the Mu Phi Epsllon
sorority, and the bridegroom
is affiliated with Phi Mu Al
pha, Sinfonia; both are music
honor societies. The bride was
graduated last March and the
bridegroom was a 1961 grad
uate. Since that time he has
been leaching in Monroe
High school. He is a Medford
High school graduate. At the
close of the teaching year he
will leave for Air Force offi
cer's training school. The
bridegroom's social fraternity
is Tau Kappa Epsllon.
May Day

The annual Eastwood Bap
tist church May day silver
lea will be held this year
at the home of Mrs. E. Ron
Rice, 21S Saginaw drive, on
Tuesday, May 1 from 2 to 4
p.m.
Those who will Dour during
the afternoon are Mrs. Law
rence Krause, Mrs. William
Ricken, Mrs. Robert Tull. Mrs.
John Reynolds, Mrs. Harvey
Coovert, Mrs. Harold Sauncr,
Mrs. George Rosrberry and
Mrs. Clifford Young. All are
wives of ministers.
Music will be furnished by
Medford High school students
and a feature of the afternoon
will be a display of hobbies
and crafts.
Proceeds from the tea will
he used tn purchae plants
for the church sanctuary.

Hospital Week Events
Announced;
Present day hospital care
represents a unique combin
ing of science and personal at
tention, Charles I. Gustafson,
administrator of Rogue Val
ley Memorial hospital, said
today on the opening of Na
tional Hospital week.
"Scientific advances have
been translated Into life-sav
ing equipment, medications,
and medical techniques," Mr.
Gustafson said, "but they art
passed on to the patient only
because physicians, nurses,
and other medical personnel
are present to use them."
National Hospital week will
be observed locally from April
30 to May 4. This years
theme, "Your hospital .
uniting science and patient
care, points out that each
person who enters a hospital

Ann Simcox, to Lowell Dean,

Miss Simcox is a freshman

Events scheduled at Rogue
Valley Memorial this week in
clude the annual auxiliary tea
on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m.,
in the board and staff room
of the hospital. Twenty -six
babies born at the hospital
during the first week in May
of 1961, along with their
mothers, have been invited to
celebrate their first birthday
together on Thursday. Auxil
iary members will be host
esses for the baby party.
Several auxilians plan to
be In Portland next week for
the meeting of the Association
of Western Hospitals. A work
shop on orientation for volun
teer workers will be present
ed by Mrs. A. N. Potter, as
sisted by Mrs. Charles Barnes
and Mr. Gustafson.

show, and a "surprise'' enter

day, May 5, at the Rogue Val
ley Country club, the event
will benefit the league's kin
dergarten for hard-of-hearing
children.
In a setting of pink and
white peppermint striped
poles, a gossamer orchestra
canopy, and pink starbursts,
guests will be transported to
the league's own version of
the well-known Peppermint
Lounge in New York.
During dinner, which will
be served at 8 o'clock, league
members will model the latest
in fashion and elegance from
Mann's, Burelson's, and Jean
Hart's stores.
Members of the supper com
mittee are keeping the enter
tainment a secret and an
nouncing only that it will be
"most unusual and a delight
ful surprise."
A six-piece orchestra under
the direction of John Lusk
will provide music for danc
ing during the evening.
The Junior Service league's
kindergarten for hard-of-hearing
children, located at Prid
dy and McAndrews road in
Medford, is in its ninth year
of operation.
During this lime more than
40 children have been helped
to hear and speak through
training in lip-reading and
speech and through the use
of hearing aids, to utilize re
sidual hearing. Currently
there are 12 children enrolled
Tri-Delts Plan
Alumnae Chapter
Plans are being formulated
by alumnae members of the
Delta Delta Delia sorority to
institute an alumnae chapter
of the sorority for this area
A meeting for the purpose of
organizing such a chapter will
be held Wednesday. May 2 at 8
