foreign governments to inter
cede in behalf of German
Jews, the prosecution charged
today.
Documents were Introduced
In his trial purporting to show
that Eichmann set himself up
as a watchdog over the ITazi
Foreign Ministry and forbade
it to grant requests received
through official channels.
It was clear from the docu
mentary evidence that the
German Foreign Office de
ferred to Eichmann on all
matters involving Jews, al
though he was only a lieuten-

sort of over-all station master
who confiscated 25 per cent
of the cash of each deported
Jew and used it to pay the
traveling expenses. There
seemed to have been no such
thing as a round-trip ticket
The former Gestapo officer
is accused of the mass murder
of six million Jews under the
Hitler regime. The prosecu-
tion contends he was a leader
in the Nazi extermination pro
gram for Jews. He claims he
merely carried out orders
from above and never issued,
the actual directives for kill
ing Jews.

Boeing Farms Out
Work on Dyna-Soar
Seattle-IUPB-Boeing Airplane
Co. Tuesday announced the
awarding of a multi- million
dollar subcontract to the Thio
kol Chemical Corp.'s Elkton,
Md., division to design and
develop an acceleration rock
et for the Dyna-Soar manned
space glider.
Boeing said the rocket will
give an additional boost to the
glider after the second stage
of the vehicle's Titan booster
has burned out, and also will
serve as an escape rocket to
hurl the glider and its pilot
free of the booster if an emer
gency occurs during launch.
Dyna-Soar is an Air Force
program to send a piloted
glider into space and back to
earth through a controlled re
entry into the atmosphere.

Boivin To Sign
Several Measures

Harry Boivin was to sign sev
eral bills at The Dalles today
including two that are special
pets of Sen. Ben Musa, The
Dalles, and his wife. Rep.
Katherine Musa.

Tax court and a bill providing
$4 million in bonds for High
way 197 in Wasco county.
Several other bills also
were to be signed at the cere
mony. Signature of bills out
side the capitol city has been

Boivin and his wife left
here for The Dalles Tuesday
night and will return later to
day. Boivin is acting governor
while Gov. Mark Hatfield is
attending the Western Gover
nor's conference at Salt Lake
City, but will sign the bills in
his capacity as Senate' presi
dent, an action which must be
performed before going to the
governor's desk.

Trial Continues in
Hillsboro Court
Hillsboro, Ore. - (DPI) - The
political libel trial of Mrs.
Audrey Henry, Portland, was
in its third day today follow
ing a Tuesday session which
saw Circuit Judge J. S. Bo
hannon make rulings against
both the state and prosecu
tion. Mrs. Henry is on trial on
charges of helping distribute
false statements against Sen.
Monroe Sweetland (D-Milwau-kie),
candidate last year for
secretary of state.

to the stand briefly but Mrs.
Henry s attorney objected suc

order to put him on the stand
to testify as to the character
of Monroe Sweetland.
Linklater said he hoped to
show falsity of the statements
contained in the material by
putting on witnesses backing
Sweetland's character.

ing bonds in one year, 86 per
cent "failed to report any in
terest whatsoever" on their
federal income tax returns ac
cording to Treasury Secretary
Douglas Dillon.
Dillion said about 500,000
reported accrued interest in
full and 128,000 persons re
ported some of their earned
interest. He said the Treasury
paid $246 million in interest
on bonds during the year and
only 29 per cent of it was re
ported on tax returns.
Peace Volunteers
To Start Training

ing next month for a mission
to Colombia.

the first contract given to a
private agency under Presi
dent Kennedy's Peace Corps
program, said Tuesday 161
volunteers will take an in
tensive . two-month training
program at New Jersey's Rut
gers University starting June
26. Of the 161, only 64 will
be chosen for the two year
mission, and will receive an
other month of training when
they arrive in Colombia.
The volunteers will study
Spanish, agriculture and
small construction work.
