Nursing School
Now Accepting
New Applications
Applications are being ac
cepted now for the October
class of the Southern Oregon
School of Practical Nursing
at Rogue Valley Memorial
hospital, it was announced
by school officials. The 12'
month course, consisting . of
classroom and clinical train
ing under the direction of
Mrs. Bertha Morrill, R.N.,
will be conducted fori the
third year since establish
ment in 1999. .. -
Applicants must be between
17 .and 50 years- of age, in
good physical - health, and
capable of passing the pre
liminary reading and aptitude
tests. According to officials,
the cost of the course is more
than offset by a stipend paid
students during the clinical
training period.

house Tuesday evening. The formal dinner brought to a close
the first day of the Kennedy's visit to Canada. Mrs. Ken
nedy wore a floor length gown of heavy white silk with a
slim skirt and sleeveless belted overblouse. The neck of the
overblouse and the skirt hem are embroidered with a band

the meeting. A style show
will follow with eighth and
ninth grade girls of the home
making department modeling
articles of clothing made in
the sewing classes.

will be at the rear of the
gymnasium. , Regular work
and special projects will be
included. The business session,
conducted by Mrs. Richard

member.

business talks between her
husband and Prime Minister
John G. Diefenbaker. The
time was , reserved for the
First Lady to indulge in two
of her favorite hobbies - art
and horses. .

agenda was tour of the Na
tional Art Gallery, featuring
a special Canadian exhibit,
and with Canada's first and
only woman cabinet minister,
Mrs. Ellen Fairclough, serv
ing as one of the guides..
Then, the Royal Canadian
Mounted Police had, a special
treat in store for her - a pre
view showing of the famed
RCMP musical ride at the
suburban Rockcliffe Barracks.

' Medford Rose society re
ports that in . recent weeks
members have worked at the
old rose garden in Jackson
ville. This garden was estab
lished a year ago with the
thought of perpetuating some
of the loveliest of the older
roses in a historical spot
where they may be enjoyed
by those who visit the Jack
sonville museum, as well as
all rose lovers. ,
On April 29 several mem
bers of the society spent a
work day in the garden, weed
ing it, and digging new holes
for additional roses. Roy Ar
thur, . Dayton Depue, Eldred
Peyton, Wallace Peabody and
Ranald Axtell were the work
ers that day. They were served
a luncheon at the Peabody
home by Mrs. Peabody.
On May 8 a follow-up work
day was observed when a
shipment of the old roses was
Norrtt, Eldred Peyton and
Ranald Axtell planted 103
more rosea In the garden.
These roses are Bourbons, hy
brid perpetuals. ramblers,
moss rasas, and musk roses.
Most of them are the repeat
blooming type which will add
greatly to the delight of the
garden all summer, it is stat
ed. A great many of the older
roses are very fragrant which
is a .characteristic often lost
in modern roses In an attempt
to improve the flower.
