based their conclusions upon
a study of 12 married couples
over 45- years of age. They
described the wives as either
the "shrew type" or the "long
suffering, good, obedient type
of wife," while the husbands
appeared to fit either the pop
ular stereotype of the "bully"
or the "hen-pecked husband.,"
Forman suggested that the
relationship between these
husbands and wives was not
a case o misery likes com-
p?ny," but rather a case of
I'm' not miserableyou are.".
Socially, most of these mar
riages .'were, considered "de
sirable and frequently ideal,"
the two psychiatrists reported.
The husbands were generally
prominent professional or bus
iness . men, while the wives
tended, to be well-educated, at
tractive and intelligent .
- All the couples persisted in
irritating each other for 20
and 30 years before seeking
psychiatric help. In no case
did they really -want to sever
their embattled relationship,
Forman said.

fringement on the trade name
"88 Cent Stores." .
A firm called the 88 Cent
Stores, Inc., sued Gil Mar
tinez who openeda store in
downtown Portland called
"Gill's Super 88 Cent Stores."
The Incorporated firm ini
tiated a business in Eugene
called "The 88 Cent Stores"
and franchised the name and
type of merchandise to other
stores on the west coast.'
Martinez had no franchise.
But the high court in a de
cision by Justice Kenneth
O'Connell said the designation
88 Cent Store is "unquestion
ably a descriptive term and if
the name is solely descriptive,
the law affords plaintiff no
remedy for those who imitate
it."
O'Connell wrote that it is
