made public an executive or
der by Kennedy Svhich re
activates the board "under
broadened terms of refer
ence" and appoints new mem
bers to It.
' The six member group,
drawn from outside the gov
ernment, "will be responsible
for conducting an objective,
independent review of the for
eign Intelligence and related
activities of the government,"
the White House said.
The group will report peri
odically to Kennedy "with re
spect to its assessment of the
objectives and performances
of those activities by the Cen
tral Intelligence Agency and
the several additional civilian
and military' agencies engag
ed therein." .
As announced Wednesday,
the board will be headed by
Dr. James R. KUUan Jr.,
chairman of the corporation
of Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. . .

espionage charges, died of cancer today at the Clark Air
Base Hospital in Luson, the U.S. Air Force reported. He

tiations ended with a bang
and a whimper Wednesday
night when charges of a "dou
ble-cross" snuffed out a spe
cial meeting on a three-way
workmen's compensation com
promise. It made chances of a three
way bill, or any other work
men's compensation legisla
tion, appear virtually nil this
sesi Ion.
The special House ., Labor
Committee session was called
a few hours, after Speaker
Robert Duncan revealed he
had reached a "so-called com
promise" with Sen. Walter
Pearson on three-way.
In the most sharply-fought
controversy of the session,
the House Labor Committee
has refused to release Pear
son's original, Senate-passed
three-way measure. Duncan
agreed to ask the committee
to look, at the new alterna
tive. ' .
Newsmen Upset Things .
Both Duncan and Pearson
were present at - the tense
meeting when the appearance
of newsmen caused Pearson
to turn on Duncan. "I am sick
and tired of being double
crossed," Pearson declared.
"You don't arrive at a conv
promise when the press is
present. '
Duncan denied a double
cross, but the exchange
prompted committee members
Ed Whelan and Sidney Leik
en to leave. Later, the two
returned and Whelan moved
to adjourn.
Only Chtdrman'W. O. Kel
say. a three-way opponent,
voted against ending the
meeting. , .
Further Sessions Unlikely
Later, Kelsay indicated no
further sessions appeared in
the offing.
The original three-way bill,
bitterly opposed by labor,
would have let private insur
ance firms write workmen's
compensation Insurance. The
state now enjoys a monopoly.
The compromise would have
let private firms into a corner
of the workmen's compensa
tion field, Duncan and Pear
son differed on the extent. ;

Time was when Mrs. Ken
nedy's firm did not furnish
even its spacious presidential
suites with genuine antiques.
A visit from President Ei
senhower changed that.
The chain owned New
York's Astor hotel at the
time, and Mrs. Kennedy had
Just a week to get the presi
dential suite ready for Mr.
Eisenhower. In her opiulon,
nothing but antiques would
do, and there wasn't time to
talk her out of it.
She rushed over to Third
avenue, the heart of New
York's antique district, and
tracked down enough Ameri
can Colonial pieces for three
rooms. It was the first hotel
suite she ever decorated with
antiques, and the idea caught
on with her firm.
Antique Furniture
Now, all the presidential
suites in the chain are fur
nished with antiques selected
by Mrs. Kennedy.
The average presidential
suite has a 20x30 foot living
room, two bedrooms and two
baths, Mrs. Kennedy said. It
is not easy to find the right
pieces for such a large suite.

commodes, two wing chairs.
