Wilson schools this year.
Each recreation center will
be under the direction of a
girl trained In recreation sup
ervision, sne wm do respon

and activities such as a story

arts and crafts. A girl will be
at each recreation playgrouna
from 9 a.m. to noon, and from
1 to 4 p.m.
A coach will also spend a
ialf-day at each playground
providing instruction and sup
ervision for such sports as
baseball and soccer.

playground will have as many
baseball teams as there are
players to play on them.

teams and each boy is assured
of having a chance to play.
Compete in League
Teams from the various

a league with one another,
and the season will climax

ious teams.
At the outset of the summer
baseball clinic will be held
where boys will receive two
weeks of Instruction. The
better ballplayers in the clin
ic will compete for Medford
In the Rogue Valley Baseball
league which Includes teams
from Ashland, Grants Pass,
and Central Point.
The remainder of the youths
will then go to the various

Two weeks of swimming
lessons will again ba provid
ed this year at the city's two
swimming pools. The lessons
will cost $2 per person. Swim
ming lessons will be free with
season passes.
' Season passes this year will
cost 94 for children 11 and
under; $5.50 for youths 12 to
18; $7.50 for adults 18 and
over; and $17.50 for at family.
Season passes are good at both
swimming - pools.- A single
swim will cost 20, 29 and 40
cents, depending on the age
group.' .
A highlight of the year's
swimming activities will be
the State Junior Short
Course Swimming Olympics
which will be held outside
of Portland this year for the
first time in. the event's 10
year history.
.-, The Olympics, for swim
mers of the age 16 and be
low, will be held at Jackson
pool July 8 and 9. It will at
tract swimmers from all over
the state including Olympic
Gold Medal winner Carolyn
Wood from Multnomah Ath
letic club in Portland, accord
ing to City Recreation Super
visor Ken Lyons.
. Lyons said times will be
set aside this year at the swim
ming pools for swimming in
struction for groups of youths
from Prospect, Eagle Point,
Gold Hill and Central Point.
Another popular recreation
activity this summer will be
the adult softball program.
Lyons said that 20 teams, in
cluding church and city teams,
have already Indicated they
will participate this year. .
If there is enough demand,
Lyons said a softball program
for women will also be pro
vided this summer. ; ,i ;
All-Comers Track Meet
Every two weeks starting
in June, an All-Comers track
meet will be held at Medford
High school. Track events will
be scheduled for all age
groups. The highly successful
program last summer attract
ed youths from as far away as
Roseburg.
' Other recreation activities
during the summer will in
clude instruction in baton
twirling, in tumbling and
trampoline and in tennis.
Lyons said adequate pub
licity will be given to the
various activities at the time
persons will be asked to regis
ter for them. In tennis, and in
several other activities, there
will be a minimum registra
tion fee to cover costs of balls
and other supplies.

al Airlines Tuesday and the
company ordered a complete
shutdown of its operations.
The first of about 1,100 ma
chinists, aircraft cleaners,
stock clerks and Janitors rep
resented by the union began
walking off their Jobs shortly
after midnight, Lew Dymond,
National's vice president in
charge of operations, reported.
The airline began ordering
flight schedules cancelled and
all personnel laid off.
More than seven months of
negotiation for a new con
tract broka off at 4:15 p.m.
Enthusiasm for Teen
Credit Plan Cools

enthusiasm for teenage credit
plans has cooled considerably
across the country, according
to Women's Wear Daily.
Biggest difficulty has been
lack of response to the plans
with many teenagers , using
their parents' accounts. Some
stores implied they've had
payment- troubles and were
forced to drop the program,
the trade paper said.
