Williams Grange
Master W. W. Claypool pre
sided at the regular meeting
of the Williams Grange Fri
day, April 21.
A. T. Lathrop presented the
program and demonstration
of "training a pig for show,"
assisted by his Williams 4-H
swine club, "The Swing'n
Swine."
A Bible was presented to'
the Grange by Mr. and Mrs.
James Bowles, Frultdale, in
memory of Mrs. Bowles par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram
Sparlin, early residents of the
town of Williamsburg, located
near the present location of
Williams.
A report was given on the
Sparlin Cemetery clean-up
project by chairman Aaron
(Buzz) Morrison. This was a
community project, sponsor
ed by the Grange. Trees and
brush were cleared and burn
ed and some of the older
graves were identified and
marked. The cemetery is lo
cated on the Water Gap rd.
Other reports were made
on plans for the exhibit at
the Josephine County fair.
Mrs. Dorothy Rippee an
nounced the "helping hand,
day" plans of the HEC. The
women met Tuesday after
noon at. the Williams school
gymnasium to help make a
cover to protect the school
piano.
Miss Shirley Rippee, youth
group chairman, reported an
increase in attendance and
expressed confidence that the
group would continue to en
large. They will have another
meeting April 28 at 8 p.m.
A potluck dessert was serv
ed in the recreation room
after the meeting, and had
been planned by Mrs. Mike
Rak and Mrs. A. D, Fitzpat
rick. . . '

trees. They said 7,000 trees
had been given at the Big Y,
and that 1,500 had been given
away in Josephine county.
Wilford Davies reported on
the state legislature which
was 'to have adjourned this
week end but was postponed
until sometime in. May.
HEC Chairman Mrs. 'Lester
Wertz said the next HEC
meeting would be held at
Mrs. Augusta Perry's home.
Literary program was of
readings and quizzes put on
by the lecturer.
The display table was made
up of letters from the school
children all over the county
who have received trees in
the community tree program.
Refreshments were served
by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bigham
and Mr. and Mrs. Earle Jossy.
