jSure it's still early yet and
ajot of things can happen be

;those experts who predicted
dpom - for the Cubs after
TYrigley introduced his "no

of these facts awhile:
A- The Cubs are only IVi

best record in the major

Elston picked up his fourth

the ninth on John Roseboros
pinch homer, but with Maury
Wilis perched on third, Bob
Bolin as the fourth Giant hurl
er retired the last two men to
preserve the win for Jim
Duffalo. .
Three of the four runs
scored by the Giants in the
eighth inning were unearned.
Errors by Wills and Wally
Moon opened the gates for
the tallies. ,
Dodgers, Hold Lead '
Prior to that inning, the
Giants pushed over a pair of
runs in the sixth on a pinch
walk by Don Blasingame, sec
ond baseman Chuck Hiller's
single, a sacrifice fly to Har
vey Kuenn that scored Blas
ingame and two singles by
Willie Mays and Willie Mc
Covey. The second single sent
Hiller home.
The Dodgers shot Into a
three-run lead in the- fifth
when Wills doubled with two

Neal's single, which was fol

ting a two-run homer to left
field.
The contest actually started
as a pitching duel between
Stan Williams of the Dodgers
and lefty Mike McCormick.
Williams threw hltless ball for
five innings while McCor

four hits, held the Dodgers
scoreless until the fifth.
Duffalo, the third of the

unearned .runs score, was
charged with the loss.
Both teams were idle today.
