Kennedy', administration's
Peace Corps has captured the
imagination of most Africans
to 'such an. extent, that the

preme Court Chamber in the
Capitol, , which. Dirksen. and
Halleck use for a studio, was
crammed to the rostrum, with
reporters pnd photographers.
The host performers came
on first and .went into .their
usual -opening; routine. Hal
leck read, a statement setting
forth, the . party's views -on
unemployment. Then- Dirksen
read a statement setting forth
the . party's - views -on unem
ployment.' "' " ' " ''.' '.'
Talk About Cuba- .-- -.; ' -?';';
, Next they - answered ques
tions about the crisis in Cuba.
Halleck' said it was a matter
of ."great concern." - Dirksen
said it was a matter of "grave
concern." . ;-. -.;. .". .' i -.
This . might i sound- i a :bit
repetitious, but , it .. keeps . the
two political thespians from
upstaging each other .
After about .25 minutes,
Nixon emerged from the
wings and began juggling
questions. He was, I thought,
in fine form. . , .
Some of the inquiries were
rather s'uarply angled, but he
demonstrated that he can still
handle them with aplomb.
His only mishap was knock
ing over the water glass that
Dirksen had left on the lec
tern. . ( '
. For what it may be worth,
I got the impression that Nix
on . is thinking ahead-possi-bly-
to. around 1964.....,,... '
'In any event, he may have
convinced Dirksen and Hal
leck that, the one-shot guest
.technique, can be a valuable
adjunct to their program. It
will . be interesting . to . see
what they do for an encore.
