Flight Engineers
To Appeal Firing
Los Angeles - (UPD - Western
Air Lines flight engineers, dis
missed during a recent nation
wide wildcat strike, will ap
peal their firing to the U.S.
Court of Appeals In San
Francisco, an attorney for the
123 men said today.
- Attorney Charles Hackler
said he would appeal a federal
district judge's dismissal of a
petition for reinstatement of
the 'engineers, who were fired
in February as a result of the
walkout that shut down West
ern and six other major car
riers. Hackler said the other com
panies let their engineers re
turn to work without penal
ties at the request of President
Kennedy's appointing a face
finding committee to Investi
gate the engineer s grievances.
Western officials contend
the engineers violated their
contract by striking and began
hiring and training pilot-qualified
flight engineers to take
their places.
