Philatelists
Announce
Fall Exhibit
Plans for a philatelic ex
hibit to be held in the fall in
commemoration of the tenth
anniversary of the Southern
Oregon Siamp club, were dis
cussed at the April meeting
of the club. To exhibit at the
show, it will not be necessary
to belong to the club; there
will be a junior division also,
for boys and girls who are col
lectors. ;
Details of the exhibition will
be announced; those desiring
more information should con
tact Clyde Smith, president of
the club, at MUrdoek 2-3046,
or other club members. Rib
bons will be awarded. The
club officers expressed the
hope that many of the phil
atelists of Jackson county
will take advantage of this
opportunity to display their
collections.
Mrs. Edward Leach report
ed that Mr, Smith was to be
the judge of the stamp ex
hibit at the Camp White hob
by show on April 9. Mrs.
Leach is the advisor of the
Camp White club.
On exhibit at the club meet
ing was a cover that had been
sent to Czechoslovakia, but
had been returned to the send
er, because it bore a Chamn-
ions of Liberty stamp show
ing i. G. Masaryk. The cov
er carried the word "Retour
in purple ink, and a label
reading "Kan Admis - Nepri
pustri," One of the members
spoke of a cover carrying the
jratrick Henry Credo "Give
Me Liberty or Give Me
Death" that was also returned
from an Iron Curtain coun
try. . .
The program for the eve
ning was provided by 35mm
slides from the American Top
ical association on the United
Nations of the World. Each
slide depicted a stamp or
stamps issued by some coun
try m honor of the United
Nations. Starting with Af
ghanistan, which issued one
stamp in honor of the U.N. !t
concluded with the United
States, which has also issued
one stamp in honor of it, the
Atoms for Peace stamp of
1857. Two countries had also
issued souvenir sheets in hon
or of the U.N. Nationalist Chi
na has issued eleven, stamps
for this cause, . ,
In all stamps from 32 coun
tries were shown. One coun
try even issued a stamp in
honor of the U.N. before It
was a member. Commentator
for the program was Robert
Lowe, and Mrs. Eric de Place
was projectionist.
Mrs.- W. H. Walwyn was a

itors were Russell Mitchell,
Medford, and Beverly Leach,
Eugene. Miss Leach is the
daughter of Me. and Mrs. Ed
ward Leach, Medford.
It was announced that fn

Talk on Braille
A discussion of transcrip
tion of Braille will be given
by Miss Gertrude Bell at a
meeting of Rogue Valley
Alumnae chapter of Deita
Gamma fraternity Wednesday,
April 18. Members are to meet

Miss Bell is a newcomer to
the valley, making her home
at Rogue Valley manor, and
has worked with the blind, a
national project of the fra
ternity. She will discuss as
pects of Braille transcription,
its difficulties, training and
need for transcribers. She

ming pool, on lakes and riv
