Hospital's 50th Year To
Be Observed at High Mass
A solemn high mass of thanksgiving, in observance of the
50th anniversary of the establishment of Sacred Heart hos
pital, will be celebrated on April 22, it has been announced.
The mass will be said in Sacred Heart church, rather than
in the hospital chapel, so that there wiU be enough room
for all who may wish to attend. The Very Rev. Carl Mai,
pastor of the Medford church, will be celebrant of the mass
which will begin at 9:30 a.m.
All friends of the hospital have been Invited to join the
Sisters and hospital staff in this anniversary observance
which will be in the nature of a double thanksgiving-thanksgiving
for the completion of 50 years of service to the sick
and suffering of the community and thanksgiving for the
response of the community Itself when the hospital was al
most forced to close its doors this year. ' . .

Discussed For
Area Ministers
The orderly development of
areas outside of incorporated
cities is the purpose of the
'county planning commission.
So stated C. O. Lovejoy,
chairman of the commission,
at the Tuesday meeting of the
Medford Ministerial associa
tion at the Advent Christian
church.
Lovejoy reviewed the his
tory of county planning in
Oregon explaining that prior
to 1947 only cities had this
power. The Jackson county
planning commission was cre
ated in 1956 with nine mem
bers. Dave Lowry is the only
original member still serving
on the commission. The com
mission's staff consists of
Jack Eaton, planning tech
nician, who is assisted by a
secretary and draftsman.
The commission also shares
the. services of a technician
from the bureau of municipal
research from the University
of Oregon. Working with the
planning groups in Klamath
Falls, Grants Pass, Ashland,
Medford, and Jackson county
is Richard Hayward. Lovejoy
explained that the bureau of
municipal research Is a gov
ernment agency administered
through the state university.
Basic data of any given
area must be obtained before
the commission can work,
Lovejoy said. This material
includes direction of growth,
industrial areas, etc.
The next meeting will be
held May 9 at Eastwood Bap
tist church starting with - a
prayer meeting from 9 to 9:45
a.m. to be followed by a 15
minute coffee hour and the
meeting at 10 a.m. -.
Bass Soloist To
Appear at Rally
Bass soloist Stan Perisho,
Newberg, Ore., will present a
gospel message in song at the
Rogue Valley Youth for
Christ rally Saturday, April
15. The rally will be held in
the Central Point Junior High
gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Perisho is a past win
ner of the Idaho Youth for
Christ soloist contest, and re
ceived a high rating in the
Idaho State music festival. He
is a professional soloist with
radio and television experi
ence. He has been an assist
ant' pastor of a Medford
church for two summers.
High school students will
sing and give testimonies at
the rally. The high school or
junior high school registering
the largest number of students
will receive a prize. Past ral
lies normally attract students
from - throughout southern
Oregon. The rallies are the
monthly meeting of YFC clubs
plus all other interested peo
ple.

What About Keeping the Sabbath

lowed early. God finished his creative work in six days

upon Mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven,
and gavest them right ordinances and true laws, good
statutes and commandments, and madest known unto
them thy holy sabbath." (Neh. 9: 13, 14.) The people
of God did not "know" the sabbath until Sinai's de
crees were given. Only then, with high formality, the'
stipulation was made, "Remember the sabbath day to
keep it holy." (Ex. 20: 8.) Observe, too, that a "sabbath',
year". was enjoined. (Ex. 23: 10, 11.) Incidentally and in--formally,
the sabbath is first mentioned in connection
with the gathering of manna. (Ex. 16: 21-30.) ,.. ... )' .
Jewish prophets anticipated the passing away of
Motes' law and the cessation of Jewish festivities, in-'
eluding the sabbath. Amos rebuked greedy Jews who
asked, "When will the new moon be gone, that we may''

observed for the simple reason that the Jewish law has'
been abrogated. It has been nailed to the cross. (Cf. Col.!
2: 14.) Christain people honor and respect Christ's law
- not Moses' law. Christ's law makes no mention of the

Manifestly, Christains are under no obligation -to
