Most Homes Have Laundry Space
SPECIAL LAWN Every home gardener
-wants bis lawn to be "special." In laying out
the lawn, placing flagstone walks, garden
paths, planting beds and foundations shrubs -
the gardener should consider if these things
will interfere with routine mowing. There's
a proper place for all of them, one that
doesn't make mowing a delicate chore.
Even in older homes there ,;;
are many t possibilities for a .
convenient and pleasant laun- ';
k dry area. Study the layout of'';
your home carefully, -itjnay ';
reveal unexpected laundry
possibilities.
.... Upstairs: in the hall closet,
the bathroom or the hallway;,
, downstairs: in the family ;
room,' the utility. area or the .
breezeway' any one of these y.
areas may be the ideal laun-
dry room. , ,','.' '"..;-v" j " .:''-.'.''
Your selection will be de- '
termined by your individual
needs, but the Maytag Home
Service Department points out
several requirements 1 for a ;
successful laundry. Adequate
: plumbing facilities should be ''
nearby,' and units should be
placed next to or above exist- :
' . ihg plumbing for ease of in
. stallation and lowered costs.
Space Required ;
' Adequate space fort h e ;
washer, dryer, for storage, and
' sorting are also required. At '

ties as ironing and mending,

ing area in front of the appli
ances provides adequate room
for freely sorting, folding and
ironing clothes... .. . .
Storage space for soaps, de
tergents and other i laundry
supplies as well as soiled laun
dry is needed. Cabinets adja
cent to and or above units are
ideal. If available, - cabinet
space for sorting by washer

Peal Moss Pots How Available To Home Gardens
Just ' imaginet Plants and
flowers that grow bigger . . .
faster ; . . more profusely! ,
Yes, results like these has
prompted a revolution among
the spade and trowel set.
Vegetable -and flower seed
home gardens can be planted
in the same peat moss pots
commercial growers use so
successfully. -
This new boon to home gar
deners, called the Jack. Pot,
is made of organic peat moss
with growth nutrients added.
Plant roots easily penetrate .
the walls of the peat moss pot
and, when it's time to trans
plant, the plant and pot are
planted together.
Shock and growth retarda
tion .that usually occur dur
ing transplanting, are elimi
nated because the tender
roots are not disturbed. The
pot disintegrates in the
ground -to become' a good
grade of humus, and in the
process also releases chemical -nutrients
that stimulate
growth. v "r
Stronger and faster-growing
flowers and vegetables result,
according to the Jack Pot Ex
perimental Station which is
maintained by the Willis
Reynolds Corp., Lebanon, .
Ind., manufacturer of these
pots.
Field tests have shown that
plants started in the new
pots grow two toifour weeks
faster than plants started in
ordinary pots. Of particular
interest to home gardeners is
that the entire transplanting
process is . speeded up, and
gardening is made easier and
cleaner.
Peat moss pots are much
the same shape and size as
clay or plastic plant pots, but
weigh only a fraction as much.
A package of twelve 2V4"
pots weighs less than . three
ounces, compared to two and
a quarter pounds for 12 clay .
pots. Consequently . the pots
can bo handled easily, i
Year Round Blooms Possible in Tubs
: Continuous flowering beau- -ty
can be achieved by home
owners by charging the plants
in their garden or patio living
area to supply steady bloom
most of the year.
By having several small
gardens or a half dozen tubs
in which plants are changed ,
often, the whole property can .
bo made brighter and more
cheerful for longer periods'.
There are innumerable com
binations of plants to afford
new flower scenes. Pots or
tubs of plants changed often '
keepX the whole property
fresher and ' more v colorful,
without entailing great ex
pense because the plants are
changed only in small areas'
rather than over , the whole
property.
In tubs,, many plants that
are extremely beautiful but
difficult to grow because of
adverse local soil conditions,
. can easily be maintained. .
Saving Trees Will
Cut Home Expenses
Here's a word to homeown
ers - if there are trees on the
property, try to save them-it
will save you a great deal of
expense later on.
Before leveling your yard
for improvements be sure to
call an arborist and have him
make i a thorough inspection
of the trees. ...'
Through his experience, he
can designate those trees that
should be saved, recommend
, measures for saving them to
give your home that extra
value.
