Escape Mower ;
Even mowing erabgrass
seems futile. The leaves and
blossom stems appear to de
liberately bend down out of
the way, allowing the mower
blades to pass harmlessly
overhead. Those small pieces
cut off by the mower will
grow where they fall.
The scientific name for
erabgrass Is "digltaria san
guineus" 'which,, interpreted,
means sanguine finger grass.

stem lies flat on the ground

land when turned under; it

way for more desirable
plants; and, too, to a barren
lawn it will ' add some
greenery.
It must have been a frus
trated home owner who
coined the common name
erabgrass. He must have seen
it in a startling similarity be
tween the many legs of the
genuine crab, and this plant
that seemingly has so many
feet and, like the real crab,
can run forwards, backwards
or to the right or left, all with
equal ease and speed, '
- The true crab puts one "or
more of, its feet down and
then picks them back up, but
the erabgrass puts them down
and leaves them there; there
must be a lesson here in per
sistence something a ' little
good in a plant so determined.

Comments Asked

ward theater, ability to take
direction, working habits, re
sponsibility and proficiency.

plication form for technical

cial property making tech
niques or materials are you
familiar? Can you operate a
sewing machine? Can you do
lettering and sign painting?
Describe the type of stage con
trol boards you have operated?
List and describe your experi
ence in music and voice re
cording for theater and broad
cast use, especially In the field
of magnetic tape editing."
. Costume making applicants
are asked to state experience
in pattern drafting, celastlc
work, armor, Jewelry, make
up, wig dressing, cutting,
draping and fitting.
Dancing applicants are re
quested to list the number of
years studied and with whom,
dance performing experience
and the type of dancing pre
viously performed.
Queried on Roles
Applicants for acting roles
are queried about Shakespea
rean roles they have played
in public performances, oth
er classics performed, and
just plain other roles.
Serious work in selecting

possible. Last year he visited
all major drama centers in a
three-month swing around the
country. He talks to prospec
tive company members.
Meanwhile, back in Ash
land, the final applications are

the road. In addition, dupli
cate copies are sent to produc
tion staff members.

charges of being drunk on a
public highway following a
two-car accident Friday night
near Gold Hill on Highway
99, state police said Saturday

Heart hospital for treatment
of a broken bone in his wrist.
He created a disturbance, and
was released from the hos
pital and jailed, state police
The Renfro car crashed into
the rear of a car driven by
Robert Pugh, 52, of Gold Hill,
as both cars were headed
south on the highway near
Gold Hill, state police said.
A one-car accident occurred
Friday afternoon on Highway
99 at Mlller'-J gulch, when a
car driven by William Clar
ence Riggert, 31', of 78 Wi-
nema Way,. Medford, failed to
make a curve, went across
and off the highway. Riggert
suffered minor cuts about the
head, but no medical . treat
ment seemed necessary, s ate

accepted are notified by

cepted "we know he will ap
pear, but we don't know how
he will appear." There is

Things Taking Shape

for five weeks, seven days

the result of a 12-month ef
fort. The increasing popular-
