"THE CREST" - A now and
flattering coiffure to top off
Spring fashions. Its basis: two
small waves - one, upward
from the nape of neck to bil
low into a smooth roll at the
crown; the other: sweeps di
agonally forward above one
ear to the center of the fore--head
where it "crests" in a
smoothly underturned bang.

'International Look'
litest Style Entry
1 The "International Look" is
the newest style entry for
. spring 1961 and gives a uni
versal look to the men's fash
ion scene. This new trend In
corporates - Ideas from the
wide, wide world into one ba
sin look and lives the man
- away from home, that "at
home look" wherever he may
roam. y ,- - '
- This silhouette starts with
a well, defined waistline, a
generous, chest expression and
n "honest" representation of
the man's shoulder without be
ing square or unduly sloped.
The jacket front is well
rounded, and lias a shaped
waist, both front and back to
enhance the masculine look
with soft body lines. -
Lapels are decidedly wlHor
than any shown during the
past seasons. Sleeves are well
tapered and in keeping with
the shorter lengths of most
Jackets. Trousers, are single
pleated with regular side poc
kets, tapered but not narrow
legged. Two or three button
' single breasted coat carries the
button at the natural waist
line. The "International"
comes with a matching vest or
: -without, depending on the in
dividual's taste. -

SIMPLE DECORATING New notes In decor highlight a

Renewed Interest in Jewelry Is Noted in This Spring's Fashion
Not In many seasons has
there been quite so much news
in the Jewelry store. The Im
portance d e s 1 g n e r s have
placed on jewelry for spring
appears to stem from a re
newed, real Interest in jewelry
by women all over the coun
try. : . , -
Take necklaces first, as they
seem- to be the great-love at
the moment. Beads are bigger,
brighter and more lavish than
ever. Some of the beads are as
large as the , old-fashioned
"jaw breakers.'' Most feature
three or more strands, r 'i
Jeweled collars : tan airy
variation on beads) will not
be quite so- popular as the
beads, but they are lovely and
offer changeabout possibil
ities for the many collar-less
fashions.
Wooden beads are perhaps
the newest. These appear in
color or natural.. .They're
carved smoothly' or in ab
stract shapes. Crystal, already
taking the country by storm,
will be more popular than
ever. Jet has been revived
with greater interest, and is
often seen mixed with crystal.
Lilac, beige, . lime, yellow
and lobster-pink are the fa
vorite bead colors. Many times,
these are combined with shad
ings of the same color, some
times with contrasting colors.
And, sometimes the contrast
or shading comes through a
mottled effect on each bead,
Most necklaces this spring
have exquisite, over -sized
clasps which are meant to be
worn front or back, When
seen at the back, they will be
dropped, with the beads em
bracing the throat. Some neck
laces, rather than having the
decorative -clasps, have de
tachable pendants which also
serve as- pins. .
Pins are tremendous .this
season, in both size and
beauty. Part of the excitement
is in the way they will be
worn. Wi.th.two or three that
are all alike in the jewel box,
they serve - as "instant" but
tons, to dress up a jacket or
costume. Or, one may be at
tached to the belt and another
to the handbag. A pin. in a
vibrant color, worn "on a cos
tume of a quite different but
viyid hue, creates a striking
focal point. Actually, the pos
sibilities are limited only to
the imagination. ' !
Pick Up Design " ,
- Bracelets pick up the de
sign of necklaces. They're
large, wide, and sport con
trasting decorative clasps.
Dangles, both beads - and
classic charms are favored
here too - especially for more
casual wear. ' 7 , , :
Costume watches have be
come a part of the bracelet
picture and offer a great
many style vanauuus ..
year. One idea is a watch face
that comes with colorful bands
that make for a change each
day in the week.
Earrings, too,' follow the
style-steps of necklaces . y .
but where they detour is in
the shaping. Though buttons
and small dangles are still "al
ways good," the newness is in
earrings that follow the curve
of the ear or appear as shapes
of flowers or leaves or ab
stracts, -t .!"
. An ornament In the hair
will become as necessary as
earrings, for both day . and
night. There are combs, chop
sticks, tiaras, clips and hair-
Dins . . '. all elaborately de
signed and bejeweled.
In Foundations Noted, .
i A wider-than-ever range of
colors in foundations are con
tributing to the pretty look "of
spring and suiting the many
moods of feminine wearers.
. This year will see. In the
privacy of the boudoir, all
t h e s e. beautiful colors: tur
quoise, peach, aquamarine,
lavender, violet, hot pink,
pale pink, yellow, deep and
vibrant , blue, flaming red,
champagne, beige and . of
course, the classic white and
black.
