confusing thing about the en-

observing while in a garden
or. around flowers in the eve
ning have seen this bug and
, thought they were looking at
a bird. ,
' Looks are deceiving for it
requires considerable expert
nee before one can tell the
difference; even many of the
habits of the bug resemble the
bird as do the body coloring
. and method of flight, s
' Both these little creatures,
the hummingbird moth, and
the true hummingbird, the
ruby-throated one, live on the
nectar they secure from the
flowers they visit. Both hover
in the air on rapidly beating
: wings whose speed in both In
stances is so great that ' the
bodies seem suspended be
tween two blurs.
- Usually! but not always, the
bug that looks like a bird flies
only at twilight and during
the early evening hours. They
may even fly on moonlit
Bights. If you see one during
any of these times, you can
be sure you are seeing the
bug, for the real humming
bird flies, only during the day
light hours; he goes to bed at
sundown, just when the bug is
getting up.

bug or which Is bird. The
hummingbird moth la about
two Inches in length, with a
oft, mouse-gray colored body
and wings banded with yellowish-green

for the Hobby Fair to be held

until a p.m. in the tneater,
This is the day members
proudly present their hobbles
for you and the community
to enjoy. Skilled artisans and
'craftsmen, amateur and pro
fessional collectors, and oth
ers with various talents have
translated interests Into tangi
bles; AU sorts of . intriguing
things will be found In the
eight specific categories, plus
. ninth-miscellaneous. Most
of the articles are made in
manual arts therapy or the
hobby shop.
The members working In
manual arts therapy work un
der supervision while mem
bers work independently in
the hobby shop. In the hobby
shop members provide their
own tools and materials. Any
member may sell articles he
has made with his material
and a special , room where
these can be seen is being set
up next door to the theater.
Variety of Items
One of the most popular ex
hibits Is leathercraft. Hobby
shop members- will show a
great variety of things from
leather, very beautifully and
skillfully created. ,
In manual arts therapy, too,
leather is the most popular.
This activity has the most ap
peal to - the members with

The body is heavy, and the
tall comes to a sharp point
with a brown tuft on the tip
end. Being an insect, it has no
feathers. The mouth is equip
ped with a . long, flexible
tongue carried in a coil under
the head while the moth is at
rest or in flight.
Locating a deep. ' tubular
flower, the tongue is straight
ened and thrust into tne Blos
som. While the tongue is suck
ing in the nectar, the body of
the moth is suspended in the
air by the long, slender wings.
Short Life ;
. The Joyous life of the false
hummer, however, cannot last
for very long; like all mother
Insects it lives but a. short
time, lays its eggs and dies.
' The eggs hatch into pale
green, brown or dull-colored
worms with an oblique stripe
on the side and a horn on
each end; they look vicious
but are actually harmless.
When frightened, the;worm
will elevate one end of Its
body and remain motionless. '
When they are successful in
filling their bodies with food,
they - will build about them
selves a silken cocoon deco
rated with bits of dead leaf
and go to sleep. When they
awaken, they have undergone
a magic transformation; they
have become winged ' Crea
tures of great grace and beau
ty, whose poised suspension in
the: air and darting flight,
make them appear more bird
like than bug-like. They have
great, soft eyes that will glow
in the dark if light reflects on
them.
So, If you see a "humming
bird" at night or just before
the world Is in darkness, you
are being fooled-actually you
are seeing a bug; a bug beau
tiful snd graceful enough to
be a bird. ; :. -V-r.

limited physical ability. In the
course of the day this section
will accomodate men who are
beginners and others who are
skilled craftsmen almost
simultaneously.
This is accomplished under
the leadership of Cliff Prlngle,
manual arts assistant. He, an
excellent leathercraftsman, is
well-known, has been in the
shop for over five years and
has received a service award
as a member employee,
He is such an inspiration to
those working there that those
men correspond with him
after they leave and, if ' and
when they come- back, It is
to work In leather as much
as to live at the Domiciliary,
they often say. Projects at
present in this area Include
belts, wallets and stirrup bags
and It takes about eight mem-J
bers on constructive assign
ment and Pringle to prepare
the material to accomodate
M to 70 men a day. Working
in leather will be one of the
"live" demonstrations,
Textile Wearing
In this same building, Gus
Vocino presides over textile
weaving. He is noted for his
unusual ability to work out
intricate treadling patterns on
a loom. He will, demonstrate
his special skill as will Rob
ert Evatt with wood-carving
and Hugh Parrlsh with fly-
tying. ' . ,
The other section of manual
arts therapy is the highly
mechanized area. Here mem
bers find a more productive
and constructive outlet for
themselves and the Domicilia
ry so they have the. joy of
bom doing and giving. .
In woodcraft, Tom Madsen,
who has been here one and a
halt years, has made the big
gest contribution to specific
planning in helping men find
constructive outlets. Leslie
Propst has brought a variety
of skills from the building
trades and helps encourage in
dividual projects, Charles
Coleman has reawakened an
old skill and interest and
spends hours to the benefit
of others in the lapidary shop.
O. R. Kipfer, the expert In
metalcratt, will show metal
spinning which has become
almost a lost art.
Others will exhibit unusual
hobbles and collections too
numerous to mention

Those lines when written
had no reference whatever to
Easter. They were a simple
statement concerning the
Resurrection of Jesus Christ
one of the two greatest events
in the history of mankind.
Easter,, a spring festival,
was adopted from the pagan
celebration given in honor of
Eostro, a Saxon goddess of
spring corresponding to the
Ashtoreth of Syria. )
Happily Associated
All that men say of Easter
tide as the season of new life
and new hope may be appro
priately connoted with this
ancient pre-Christian festival.
True,' spring, and the Resur
rection are happily associated,
not that there is anything in
nature exactly analogous to
the Resurrection, but there is
so much in springtime which
suggests , the awakening
thought. Like the stillness of
death, Old Winter has held in
his grasp all , vegetable life,
but as spring approaches the
tender life-giving power of
heat and light compel him to
relinquish his grip, and what
seemed to have been dead,
gradually awakens to a new
ness of life.
But the reawakening of
physicaf life, or even the re
habilitation of spiritual ideals,
Is not the real significance of
Easter as celebrated by the
early Christians.
They commemorated the
coming forth from the tomb
of their crucified Lord, the
Resurrected Christ.
