exuberant mob of college
students, here for their annual
Easter vacation roistering,
hurled beer cans, firecrackers
and witty phrases at police
Sunday because two of their
favorite beaches were closed.
Unsympathetic officers turn
ed back the two hour demon
stration with fire hoses, kept
the beaches off limits and, for
good measure, closed the bars
early.
It took about 350 officers;
including the state patrol, to
ge'; the crowd of 6,000 to 7,
000 out of the streets and re
luctantly to bed.
It started as "kind of a sit
down demonstration to get the
beaches open," one student
said. "They weren't angry or
anything," said City Jailor Al
bert Franco.
The melee apparently was
touched off by newly-imposed
restrictions on nearby Jade
and Dania beaches, favorite
spots of the students at night
because they are unlit.
Jade has been closed entire
ly and Danla is now closed at
night.

dozens of reasons for a girl to
act enigmatic. It's intriguing
and attention-getting. Is she
hiding something? Is she
afraid? Is she so withdrawn
that she talks only to herself?
Or docs her job involve so
much yak (selling or advising)
that she's just resting her ton
sils? Gerry offers no clue.
Evidently Vicki has man
aged to say the Important
things, because Gerald knows
she likes him and shares his
Interests. What he seems to
miss is the usual entertaining
chatter, or serious hnshing
out, that boy and girl on-a-dnte
hand out, both to fill in
the time and to draw each
other out and get better
acquainted.
Always optimists we, let's
put the best possible face on
Vlckl's silence, and unless
Gerald can prove us wrong,
envision her as wife material.
Suppose she comes from a
home where her mother was
a non-stop talking - machine,
and Vickl was so sorry for
her father that she vowed
she'd be the silent-type wife
who lets the man do all the
talking? Then, all Gerald must
decide is whether he wants a
shy, quiet mate, or a "mixer."
Maybe Vlckl can be either.
So, whether he sticks with her
or ends the affair, depends
upon him and his social needs,
not her quiet.
Remember, Gerry, you can
always get someone to talk to.
In a wife, however, it's pretty
rare to find what the prayer
books call: Silent Devotion! 1
