To Hold Services
Jacksonville - Miss Gail
Winters, missionary in the
Congo for 15 years, will be
the speaker for a two week
series of services at Jackson
ville Assembly of God church.
Miss Wlntors will speak
Sunday and start nightly serv
ices Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. She
is currently visiting various
churches of the Assemblies
of God presenting the needs
of the work in the Congo.
While in Africa Miss Win
ters taught at a Christian Day
school and operated an or
phanage which cared for or
phans and children of leprous
parents. She also engaged in
translation work.

Musical Moores
To Start Series
The Musical Moores will
begin a two weeks series of
evangelistic services at the
Foursquare church, 2200 Rob

Father Gabriel will be re
membered by many parish
ioners from his several visits
here a few years ago. He has
conducted missions, student
retreats and recollection days
here, as well as in many other
Oregon areas, during his
years as a Benedictine priest.
Other Duties
In addition to his duties
as a missioner, Father Gabriel
has been a mathematics in
structor, principal of Mt.
Angel Preparatory School for
Boys, director of seminary
dramatic productions and field
representative for the Bene
dictine press publication, St.
Joseph Magazine.
A number of changes have
been made in the parish Len
ten mass schedule for this
week of mission. First mass
on week days will be at 6:30
a.m., rather than at the usual
hour of 6:40, and will be fol
lowed by about five minutes
of religious Instruction.
The school mass will be
at the regular time, 8 a.m.,
each morning. However, the
evening mass has been chang
ed to 7:15 p.m., Sunday
through Friday and it will be
followed immediately by the
mission services. These serv
ices include a period of in
struction, benediction of the
Blessed Sacrament and any
additional devotions the mission-priest
may determine.
Time will be provided, also,
for confessions and individual
conferences with Father Gab
riel.
Before leaving Medford, the
visiting priest will conduct a
day of recollection on Sun
day, March 26, for young
unmarried adults from Med
ford, Grants Pass and Ashland.
The pre-Easter week of
preaching will begin Sunday
morning at the First Chris
tian church. Dr. Ward Rice,
professor of speech at North
west Christian college who is
the guest speaker for the
preaching mission will speak
at both morning services on
the subject "Is the Church
Important?"
The youth choir will sing

S You can be a Christian ...
J Has it ever occured to you that you can be fust a Christian
. . . nothing more nor less than a plain Christian? Yes, even in
the midst of the religious confusion of our creed-bound, de
nomination divided age, it is possible tor
you to be just a plain Christian!
What does it mean to be just a
Christian? Well, being a Christian, means
so much more than merely being a good
moral person . , . more than just going
to church on Sunday . . . more than giving
mental assent lo certain beliefs . . . more
than having one's name on a church roll..
Being just a Christian means trusting
and obeying Jesus Christ just as Paul and
Philip and the early Christians did in the
first century after Christ. It means going
back beyond all the distinctive Catholic
and Protestant doctrines of today to find
Christ just as He is revealed in the inspired
New Testament. You see, there were no
different denominations in the beginning of Christianity. The
early disciples were all one body. They were called simply
'Christians" (Acts 11:26). They did not follow different creeds,
but were guided by "the faith once for all delivered to the
saints" (Jude 3). The New Testament, first as the spoken work
and later as written down by "holy men of God" as they were
guided by the Holy Spirit, was their only rule of faith and prac
tice (II Peter 1:21). We have this same New Testament today
and can reproduce the same pure Christianity which flourished
in the first century after Christ. We can be just plain Christians!
To find out the details of just how you may become and
remain just a plain Christian like Peter and Barnabas and
Aquila, you must open your own New Testament and read for
yourself. We suggest that you begin with the Acts of the
Apostles. You will find that Jesus built only one church, and
God added everyone who obeyed the gospel of Christ to this
undenominational church, the body of Christ (Matthew 16:18)
(Acts 2:47). The Bible teaches that you will be added to this
same body today when you believe in Jesus Christ as God's Son,
repent of your sins and are baptized for the forgiveness of sins
(Acts 2:38). Why not become just a Christian and worship and
work in the non-denominational Church of Christ?
