State To Inspect
Construction of
Two Area Bridges
'The Jackson county court
Thursday approved a recom
mendation from the county
engineer to have state inspec
tion of the construction of
two county bridges.
: The request concerned the
bridges now being built on
the south fork of the Rogue
river between Prospect- and
Butte Falls and Laurelhurst
bridge across the Rogue river.
According to Judge Earl
Miller, the county bridges are
constructed under' rigid In
spection. Both of the projects
are currently behind schedule
and the constructor will soon
be operating under the pen
alty clause in the contract.
fvJudge Miller said the work
load In county engineer's of
fice is so heavy they did not
. have sufficient time to make
the necessary inspection. The
approximate $6,000 cost for
the stale inspection will be
more than covered by the ex
tra charges under the penalty
clause, he added, so there will
be no' additional cost to the

enlargements to the H, G.
Chickering Jr. company, Eu
gene," Judge Miller said. Two
bids were received for the
project,

Fleet Reserve Group
To Meet Thursday
The Crater Lake branch,
Fleet Reserve association, will
meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
March 2, in the Central Point
American Legion hall, Presi
dent Bill Molnar, Shady Cove,
has announced.
: Molnar asked that all mem
bers attend the Thursday
meeting, when the future of
the association will be dis
cussed. The Fleet Reserve associa
tion is an organization of en
listed men and temporary of
ficers of the Navy and Marine
Corps with six or more years
of active federal service.

liam Lord. Refreshments
rounded out the members'

2,500 Trees To Be
Given To Schools
Some 2,500 seedling trees
will be presented to the Med
ford school district by the Ea
gle Point Grange next week.
C. C, Hoover, chairman of
the Grange's tree planting
committee, which is giving
away some 10,000 trees
throughout the valley for dec
orative purposes, will make
the presentation.
The event will be at 10
a.m. Wednesday at the Oak
Grove school, during a meet
ing of the principals of Med
ford's schools.
Speaking will be Mrs. Edith
Eden, chairman of Medford's
street tree committee, John
McLoughlin, county agent,
and Hoover. They will dis
cuss tree planting methods,
background of the movement,
the alms and objectives of the
Medford tree plan, and give
Instructions for care of the
trees.
Principals of the 17 schools
In Medford then will accept
their quota and return them
to their schools. Some of them
plan to Include children of the
schools in the tree planting
project.

tributed include Colorado
blue spruce, Norway spruce,
redwood, Incense cedar, Rus
sian olive and Arizona cy
