Hearing Held
For Mrs. Garrett
Portland-IUPD-Another hear
ing was held Thursday in con
nection with a second charge
of first degree murder against
ex-Texas socialite Constance
Garrett, 32.
The state said after the
hearing that it would not start
her second trial next Monday,
as previously planned.
- Mrs. Garrett was indicted
for the fire death last Octo
ber of her daughter, Angela,
3, after being acquitted in a
trial for the death in the same
fire at her home of another
daughter, Gaye, 5 months.
Defense attorneys, who have
pleaded double jeopardy,
claim the plea can be decided
by a judge alone. The state
contends there also is a ques
tion which must be submitted
to a jury.

Tunisian Leader
To Meet de Gaulle
Tunis, Tunisia-IUPH-Tunisian
President H a b i b Bourguiba
said Thursday night he hoped
his meeting with President
Charles de Gaulle next Mon
day would lead to peace talks
between France and the Mos
lem Algerian nationalists.
Bourguiba, whose country
shelters the Algerian "provis
ional government" and rebel
troops, will confer with de
Gaulle at Rambouillct Castle,
the French leader's official
country residence outside
Paris.
Bourguiba said the fact de
Gaulle invited him for ex
ploratory talks - knowing he
was a supporter of the rebel
regime - indicates "the ob
stacles which blocked direct
peace negotiations in the past
have been surmounted."
