of the neck. Olten the cause
for this is not known, but I
think it highly significant that
in 40 per cent of the Mayo
Clinic cases the child had
been born breech first. This
means that the . obstetrician
had to pull pretty hard to
gel the head born quickly,
before the infant lost his life
by strangulation. In such a
caBe the child will be fortu
nate today if the obstetrician

In these cases, the contracted
tissue in the neck can be cut;
' then the head can be straight
ened and held in a cast until
' recovery has taken place. The
. operation can be performed
ct any time after one year of i
age. Usually there is complete
correction of the wryneck, but
if the operation is delayed un
til after the 12lli or 14th year,
correction may be impossible.

Back in the days of the old
hand - cranked phonograph.
boredom and curiosity led an
inventive teenager to gouge a
second hole In a Caruso rec
ord, to play it and to find per
verse delight in the distor
lions that resulted.
But, even In the capricious
mind of that teenager, novelty
could not substitute for the
ordered beauty of the original
aria.
That two-holed record is
still one of my prized possessions'-
a reminder that even
a recording can be good and
satisfying only when it works
according to the plan of Its
creator. The record was the
fruit of ordered creativity -the
result of a plan emanating
from inventor, manufacturer,
artist and engineer. When I
tampered with their work, in
terposed my own will, I only
distorted an excellent thing.
We are the creatures of
God, the divine, nil-wise and
all-loving Creator. He made
us according to His most ex
cellent plan - to center our
lives In Him. When we es
tablish for ourselves any oth
er center of our lives but God,
we may have fun for a while
but the end result is chaos
and destructive distortion of
what God meant to be good.
