Goode (R-Albany) has put in
two repealers that would
make it easier to recover
damages against the owner of
a car or plane in which
person Is injured.
His bill would repeal the
guest passenger laws where
by gross negligence must be
proved. An injured person
could then recover merely on
a conviction of ordinary negligence.
Salem-IUPD-The House High
ways Committee has heard
testimony on a proposal to
require reflectorized license
plates in an effort to cut down
nighttime rear end collisions
However, spokesmen for the
department of Motor Vehicles
said this would boost the cost
of plates and that money
might be better used In other
traffic safely efforts. The de
partment said of 63,464 acci
dents in Oregon in 1959 only
4,155 were night-time rear
end crashes and only 69 of
these . were blamed on Im
proper lighting.
Salem -(UPD -Sen. William
Grenfell Jr. (D-Portland) has

State System of Higher Edu
cation from Eugene to Salem.
Grenfell said although the
bill is his own, it fits Into
Gov. Mark Hatfield's theory
that headquarters of all ma
jor state agencies should be
in the state capital. .

a welfare recovery formula
to alleviate hardships and
prevent accumulation of
claims ' is a little tardy.
Duncan said that in 1959
Rep. Grace Peck (D-Portland)
put In such a bill at Duncan's
request and this was put into
effect.
As a result of this law and
the hiring of personnel to
carry it out, the Welfare Com
mission has been moving to
become current, Duncan said.
Salem-(UP1)-The House has
turned down, 41-18; a move
by Rep. Joe Rogers (R-Indc-pendonco)
to prevent the
House Labor and Industries

Students' Fathers
To Be Honored, OSC
Corvallls - Fathers of Ore
gon Slate college students will
be honored on campus Feb. 24
and 25 at annual Dads Week
End. About 1,500 are ex
pected. A highlight of this year's
program will be a "Meet the
Deans" period in which the
fathers and their sons and
daughters meet with the dean
of the school in which the stu
dent is registered.
The deans will discuss and
answer questions on academic
offerings, Job opportunities,
and future plans for the Insti
tution. Fathers also will have
a chance to attend regular Sat
urday morning classes.
Other week end events will
include campus tours, visits to
new campus dormitories, din
ner and firesides in living
groups, student talent show,
and basketball games with
University of Southern Cali
fornia. The Dads club sponsors an
extensive program of scholar
ships for worthy students each
year. Ed Lewis of Salem Is
Dads club president.
